  • Easy Dresses for Every Season

Summer has just begun, but we must look forward to the upcoming seasons in order to make our wardrobe work overtime. In your closet, you may already have some easy dresses for every season that you've overlooked. Like that favorite summer dress you just can’t live without? If you could wear it all year long you would, right? With a bit of creative styling, you can! Layer and combine texture and pattern in an artful way to extend the life of your most cherished pieces.

The key to carrying over lightweight dresses into the colder months is to keep things simple. This can also work with heavily beaded dresses or cut-out dresses. To have the greatest success, a short body hugging dress works best as a base for your cooler weather accessories. Keep casual cocktail dresses, either in prints or in solid colors, in mind for this application. Easy dresses cut in simple forms and light fabrics make versatile additions to your closet.

Easy Dresses - Sherri Hill 50146 Strapless Floral Black and Pink Print Cocktail Style Sherri Hill 50146 Strapless Floral Print Cocktail Dress

Sherri Hill 50146 is a great example to illustrate how to pull this off. A bold graphic floral print doesn’t have to be confined to summer or spring. Since this dress has a strapless sweetheart bodice, it would go well with a solid color cardigan, solid knit stockings, and a pair of biker boots that hit just below the calf. This gives off a look that says sweet but edgy. Playing with contrasting textures is a great way to emphasize the best of each piece. The satin-like finish on the dress against a knit fabric can look sumptuous and rich. Depending on the color cardigan you chose, you can pop one color out of the floral pattern. A pale pink or a bold fuchsia makes for an interesting statement. Putting leather boots with this look makes it feel like fall, but keep them simple. The main focus is the pattern design on the dress. Neutral earth tones go well with this look. Deep blues or slate grays are colors that could pair well with this cocktail dress. Continue reading

  • Jodie Sweetin Looked So Sweet in Sherri Hill on the 2017 People's Choice Awards Red Carpet

January 2017 is here, and Awards Season is in full swing! Last week, it was all princess vibes at the 2017 Golden Globes, with both Lily Collins and Lola Kirke wearing pretty, soft pink gowns on the red carpet. This week, it's People's Choice Awards time!

The 43rd People's Choice Awards, which honored the best in popular culture for 2016, was held this past Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The awards show was so much fun to watch, and of course the red carpet was full of fabulous looks!

While there were so many celebrities in pretty dresses on the 2017 People's Choice Awards red carpet, our eye was on one celeb: Jodie Sweetin. If you don't recognize the name, you'll certainly recognize the character she place on TV. Jodie plays Stephanie Tanner on the sitcoms Full House and Fuller House! Of course, everyone loves Full House. Netflix has brought it back in such style with the new TV show Fuller House, and everyone has fallen in love with Stephanie and DJ Tanner all over again.

While we love watching Jodie on Fuller House, we couldn't believe how sweet (pun intended) she looked on the People's Choice Awards red carpet! Partly because she always looks so stunning, and partly because she was wearing one of our favorite dress designers: Sherri HillContinue reading

  • The 2017 Pantone Color of the Year is Greenery

The year 2016 was all about balance, with Pantone naming two colors as the Color of the Year, Rose Quartz and Serenity. Now, with 2017 upon us, it's time for a brand new Color of the Year. This year is all about new beginnings, with Pantone announcing Greenery as the 2017 Color of the Year.

In the announcement, Pantone explained that Greenery (PANTONE 15-0343) is a yellow-green shade, "that evokes the first days of spring when nature's greens revive, restore and renew." The hope is that it reminds consumers to, "take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate." With a contentious election that just ended a few weeks ago, and a new president taking office in January, this is certainly an important message to remember and take to heart.  Continue reading

  • Always Dress "As If"

Don't lie, you've been there before. You're not alone. We've all suffered from that epicly embarrassing fashion fail at one point or another. The type of horrifying moment you couldn't conjure up in your most demonic and disturbing of nightmares. Hopefully, it's well in the past and you've fully recovered. If not, don't crawl in a hole just yet.

With the new year rapidly approaching and a new resolution that would traditionally go with it, I thought today would be an appropriate time to discuss the importance of always being sure to dress your best! I've gotten a head start on my resolution and, as you'll soon find out, for good reason. Perhaps by the time the New Year rolls around, my thought's will resonate and you'll make a resolution of your own; to always be dressed "as if". Dress as if you were being stalked by the paparazzi, as if you were on a reality show and knew the world were watching you, as if you knew you'd be awkwardly stumbling into your ex... and his lovely new fiance.

Whether dressing up for a winter formal, homecoming, a night out with the girls, or, as you'll soon see why, even if you're just walking your dog, it's always important to be conscious of your appearance strive to look your best. After all, you never know who you're going to run into! No matter how hard we try, ghosting ourselves is an impossibility. We've yet to discover a method for achieving invincibility, so accept the inevitable, you're going to be seen. Read on for a short story detailing how and why I finally realized that it's time to make sure I'm always dressed "as if".

    alexander wang quote

Its 7 a.m. and my alarm goes off, echoing the most revolting of noises one could hope to rise and greet a new day with. Not only am I now awake (begrudgingly), but my dog has decided to take a morning stroll upon my face. Time to start my day. First thing's first, time to take the pooch out for his (official) morning walk. As I scramble to find my glasses, and something warm to go for a walk in, the thought never crosses my mind that I will actually be appearing in public. I've just dressed myself in a black and yellow Batman hat, baby blue hoodie, over sized sweatpants, two different color Ugg boots, neon pink gloves, and to top it off, a purple fur coat. (FASHION NO NO!!!) I figured hey, its 7:00 in the morning who am I going to cross paths with at this time. Well, of course, I immediately run into two neighbors (should have seen that one coming), get three honks acknowledging my atrocious ensemble, and here comes the kicker; as I am crossing the street with my dog, I fall flat on my face. Traffic was stopped and a small village gathered to help me get my bearings and make sure I was alright. It was an all around disaster, to say the least!

And, with that 'experience,' I have FINALLY learned my lesson. No matter where I am  going, it is important to understand the likelihood of encountering other human beings... and to dress accordingly. I have no excuse for the outlandish outfit I had put together, considering that my closet is overflowing with adorable hoodies and matching sweatpants. So ladies, common courtesy to the general public, put a little effort into your look. No matter whether walking your dog or having a fun night out with the gal pals.

When it comes to a quick walk outside with Scruffy or a jaunt to the nearest convenience store, there are some easy fashion staples you can always keep in mind to look put-together without much effort at all.

For starters, oversized sunglasses are VERY helpful- not only do they help disguise you, they cover up the bags under your eyes or the smeared makeup you were too tired to wash off from the night before.  Throwing on a pair of leggings or yoga pants is always a cute choice for a fast fashion fix, while still maintaining your level of comfort. As for tops, I love wearing oversized sweatshirts with my leggings... and MATCHING UGG boots, of course! Yeah, pair them up, I assure you the two seconds it could take is much less agonizing than the shame you'll endure while others take notice of the fashion fail.

After my morning shenanigans, I come to the conclusion that it is time to give my Batman hat to my 8 year old cousin. My baggy sweatpants will be worn only in my house and, as for my purple fur coat, there's just no acceptable reason to validate how it ever entered my closet, nonetheless made its way onto my person. I'll try to donate it and, after Goodwill rejects it, I'll toss it in the dumpster to the side of their building.

    Alexander Wang said it best:

"Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous but it is how people dress in their days off that are the most intriguing."

    -Alexander Wang

So, with those ever so slight yet vitally important alterations made, my newfound resolution to "Dress Your Best" is well under way. And, what better way to kick off that resolution than by picking out some cute new digs here at Rissy Roo's

While it's all about finding that perfect prom dress for gals, sometimes the guys like to add a little bit of fun to their suits. • There Are Two 2016 Pantone Color of the Year: Rose Quartz and Serenity

Every year, Pantone chooses and announces the special Pantone Color of the Year, a moment that the design and fashion world anxiously anticipates and waits for towards the beginning of the new year. The color Pantone chooses becomes a staple choice in fashion in the year to come, so it's an important moment for many in the art and design world, from fashion designers, to makeup and beauty artists, to interior designers, to of course the every day fashionista. Only one color, out of an endless amount of beautiful colors, is chosen to represent the coming year, so the meaning it holds is an important one.

This year, for the first year ever, Pantone announced two colors for the 2016 Pantone Color of the Year! With such a huge break from the norm, Pantone of course did so with good reason. In a world that feels more and more difficult to comprehend sometimes, Pantone chose two colors that represent a sense of balance and peace to help "consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to the stress of modern day lives." The colors they chose are Rose Quartz (PANTONE 13-1520) and Serenity (15-3919), "a harmonious pairing of inviting shades that embody a mindset of tranquility and inner peace."

Pantone further explained that the light pink Rose Quartz, "is a persuasive yet gentile tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure," and the cool blue Serenity, "comforts with a calming effect, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times."

You can watch the two colors in action in their video to announce the Pantone Color of the Year 2016:

One of the reasons that they chose these two colors if for their duality and a statement for the need of gender norms to change when it comes to color and design. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, explained in the official press release, "In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements towards gender equality and fluidity."

We can certainly get behind these 2016 Colors of the Year, not only because of their special meaning, but because they are two colors that are seen prominently in prom dresses! Whether on their own or paired together through patterns like floral prints and color blocks, these are two staple hues of prom. And now when you wear them, they'll have a special meaning, too! Search through our pink prom dresses and blue prom dresses to get your very own ideas on how to rock the colors - you'll find many in both sections that incorporate the two colors together.Sherri Hill 50466 with Pantone Color of the Year colorsIf you love this look and want to get it for prom, definitely check out the new Sherri Hill Prom 2016 dresses. The dress designer is using these two colors both as separates and together in many unique ways. One of our favorites is Sherri Hill 50466, a color blocked two piece gown that features a light pink top and light blue skirt. This dress certainly couldn't invoke the 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year in a better way!

If you love this dress and the idea of rocking pink and blue, but like darker colors more, this dress also comes in a Royal/Fuchsia color combo - the top is blue and the bottom is pink in this case. It's a great way to represent Pantone's 2016 color choices and meaning at prom or your next formal event, but through your very own interpretation.

The color combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity has a great meaning behind it, so wear the colors proudly through the new year, and many years to come!
