  • Prom Dreams Ruined

What if you had spent nearly $1000 on your Prom dress, shoes, and jewelry, bought your Prom tickets, but then your date backed out and you were told by the school that you weren’t allowed into Prom without a date? Well, that’s what happened to one Wayne, Pennsylvania high school student.

Seventeen-year-old, Amanda Dougherty was shocked when school officials from Archbishop John Carroll High School told her that she was not allowed to attend her Junior Prom without a date because of a rule made by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. According to her father, Amanda had been so excited for a couple of years awaiting her Prom to finally arrive. In fact, she was so excited that she started dress shopping around Christmas time, where she spent close to $1000 for her Prom wear and tickets. She even compared dresses with her friends on a Facebook page that was ‘blocked’ so that the guys couldn’t see it.

When questioned about the predicament, the office of Catholic Education responded with “there are numerous dances and events throughout the year where dates are not required, but we view the prom as a special social event where a date is required to attend.” What do you think? Should Amanda have been allowed to attend her Junior Prom?  How would you have responded if the same thing happened to you?

  • How to Pick the Perfect Prom Hairstyle

One of the most important parts of your look is how you do your hair.  No matter what hair type you have, it’s good to think about how a certain “do” will look with your dress.  Since there are so many different styles to choose from, matching your hair style to your dress style might help with the decision.

If you plan on wearing a dress with a detailed neckline or fancy straps, your best bet is to wear your hair up.  This way you can show off your beautiful gown completely.  Your hair is important, but it’s all about the dress.  You can pick out a pretty updo at the salon that will compliment your look and go great with your outfit.

  • Prom Girls, Beware!

Prom night is fast approaching. Ladies Beware!

Prom girls, be smart. Your dream dress could be a fake! The prom industry’s leading designers are still fighting the ongoing battle with fraudulent internet sites selling counterfeit prom dresses to unsuspecting teenage girls and their families. Companies are representing these dresses as authentic garments, but what the customer is receiving is a knock-off of sub-par quality, leaving them feeling scammed and distraught.  Some are not receiving any dress at all!

Protect yourself. Before purchasing a prom dress via the internet, check the designer’s website for a list of authorized retailers. Also, be aware that designers such as Jovani, La Femme, Mori Lee, Sherri Hill and Tony Bowls set an MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) that all authorized retailers must follow. Meaning, that if you are able to find the dress at a price lower than the MSRP, chances are it’s a scam. Do not buy it! Another way to ensure you are receiving the real deal is to call the company’s contact information. The most reliable companies, like RissyRoos.com, offer customer support and toll-free lines for your convenience in placing your order with a real person.

  • New Year, New You for 2012!

2012 is a new year, this means new fashion. With fashion, there always come trends and with a new year comes a NEW you.

For Prom 2012, pick the New Year’s resolution of a “new you.” Try something fresh, unique and out of the usual for yourself. When you begin your prom dress search in the beginning of the new year, keep in mind some of the dress details we see trending:

Bling: We love bling. There is no such thing as too much bling, so make sure if it isn’t on your dress you Accessorize! Accessorize! Accessorize! Try some of these bracelets or earrings with or without a blinged out dress.

Mirrors: “Mirrors” is a new kind of bling trending for Prom 2012. Mirrors are big and small pieces of glass stone placed closely together to make a broken mirror effect. Take a look at Night Moves 6496. This dress is gorgeous!

Lace: Some of you may think lace is out and not your thing, but you are wrong it is so in and not going anywhere. All of this year’s designers have used lace on some part of their dress collections. It gives your look a classy, slightly sexy touch.

Feathers: Fun and flirty! Feathers are such a unique touch to any dress type. If you are trying to stand out, we say go with a feather accented dress.

Happy New Year! 2012 will be a great year. Life’s A Party! Dress Up!

  • Kardashian Sister and Sherri Hill Hit It BIG!

Many blog years ago, we posted about the up and coming model and Kardashian sister Kendall Jenner. Kendall was just on the scene in the fashion world then, but her break out moment came from a trip to New York with her sister Kim. C’mon! Remember the “Keeping Up With The Kardashian” episode where Kim took Kendall to New York for her shoot with Designer Sherri Hill? Well, if you forgot, Kendall spent the whole day shooting at Sherri Hill’s showroom in a penthouse suite on New York City’s Fifth Avenue!

Sherri Hill creates couture one-of-a-kind gorgeous gowns… the kind that will make heads turn on entrance! Beautiful cuts with intricate details and embellishments, Sherri Hill’s dresses, both short and long, are Prom perfect picks and give an aura of sophistication! Sherri Hill offered Kendall the opportunity to walk in one of her shows ON THE SPOT, but Kendall was too nervous and declined (much to big sis Kim’s disapproval, but Kendall didn’t want to miss cheerleading practice, GO TEAM!)

In true Kardashian fashion, Kendall conquered her fear and took Sherri Hill’s offer! Kendall hit the runway at New York’s Fashion Week on September 14, 2011. She looked fun, fresh and fabulous as she strut her stuff on the catwalk in some of Sherri Hill’s newest styles for 2012!
