  • Fall’s Favorite Color: Oxblood!

It may have a creepy name, but oxblood (you can also call it burgundy) has been all the rage lately, and for good reason; it takes the classic color red and gives it a new spin. The dark, rich shade adds a sense of sophisticated edginess to any outfit. It is also a versatile color when it comes to pairing it with an outfit; you can let oxblood be the stand-out color and wear it with neutrals like tan, gray, black, or brown, or let it take the back-seat and wear it with patterns like leopard print and houndstooth.

If you are looking to try the color in a more subtle way, it also works great on nails or lips, or as an accessory to your favorite outfit on a bag, jewelry, or pair of shoes.

Finding an oxblood-inspired dress will definitely give you an air of class and sexiness at any formal event. When wearing oxblood to a formal event, pairing it with neutral accessories will help to let your dress stand out amongst the crowd. The color looks great on both shorter and longer dresses, so pick one that you really love! Check out our formal dress choices below to rock the oxblood look.

  • Fall Colors: Nail Polish That Will Get You Noticed

The summer sun has set and fall is officially here, so that of course means it is time to re-work your go-to nail polish colors for the crisp, cool weather ahead. While the nude shades of the summer are still “in,” it is time to add some darker tones to the mix, as well. Scroll down for a look at the fall lacquer trends to try out before it turns to winter time!

Darker shades like midnight blue, burgundy, and dark purple are great for showing off your feminine side with a hint of ‘badass.’ The neon pink and yellow colors of the summer were fun, but it’s time to turn a new leaf (pun intended) and embrace that darker, gothic part of your femininity with the cooler weather ahead. The darker shades are always classics to choose when dressing up for formal occasions, as they can add a subtle hint of color to your outfit.

If you’re truly looking to get into the season, choose nail polish colors that match the changing of the autumnal leaves, like rusty oranges and reds and golden yellows. These hues will look particularly great with that little black dress.

Still not ready to give up on summer? The neutral colors of summer-time will always be a go-to polish because of its ability to be paired with any outfit! If you are looking for a more discrete color, neutral hues are always a dependable choice.

Green has been a popular color for a while now, with variations in the color changing according to the season. For Fall, military-inspired green is the hue of choice. While this may be a more difficult color to match with a formal outfit, if you have the right dress (military-related colors like black, silver, or gold would work best), it would be a great way to stand out from the crowd.

What fall occasions do you have coming up? Which polish color will you choose? Do you have any tips of your own to offer up? Leave some love in the comment section!

  • Celeb Style Watch: Taylor Swift Dresses

Taylor Swift DressThere is no doubting Taylor Swift’s super star style.  Since breaking onto the music scene as a teen, this country singer has been seen wearing the cutest clothes that compliment her personality.  Taylor never misses a step draped in some of the most beautiful designer dresses.  Even in her pop music videos, she always loves to wear ball gowns that are made for the country princess she is.  Before becoming a celebrity Taylor Swift loved dressing up in gowns and dresses, and dreaming about being famous one day.  Now, as a global superstar, Taylor Swift never misses an opportunity to look great in a pretty dress.

To get the Taylor Swift look for your Homecoming or Prom this year all you need to remember is 3 words:  Simple, yet glamorous!  Taylor always stands out in beautiful princess gowns and dresses, but when it comes to other aspects of her look, she makes sure to tone it down.

When it comes to hairstyles, Swift tries to stick to the basics.  She loves pretty updos, but will also just rock her natural curls with some added boost at most events.  This year Taylor added bangs to her hairstyle, which many other celebs are also adopting.  Full bangs are becoming a major trend of 2012!

For her makeup, Taylor Swift always keeps it basic as well.  She doesn’t overdo it, yet still has a certain style to it that makes her pop!  Usually Swift goes for the smoky eye look with dark eye shadow, thick mascara, and the occasional added glitter for extra sparkle.  Her lipstick color is always either a feminine light pink, bold pinup red, or classic vintage coral.  When it comes to adding blush, Taylor Swift is always sure to not go overboard.  Sometimes you can notice a slight added pink to her cheek, but her entire look is still very natural.

  • Designer Fashion Lines for Discount Retailers

Capsule CollectionWho doesn’t love a good deal?  That’s what major designers must have been thinking when they started partnering with discount retailers to offer “capsule collections” at low prices to the masses.  These high fashion lines at affordable prices have become the most popular clothing collections for the style savvy that are short on spare change.  The Marni Collection for H&M sold out from stores in hours this March, while the Missoni for Target line crashed the store’s website with record breaking sales during Fall Fashion Week last year.  These popular lines have been causing a stir in department stores and discount retailers for years, but some fashion lovers are starting to question how similar the low-price products really are to their designer counterparts.

Capsule collections, aimed to highlight popular fashion designers in the mainstream, are part of a long line of collaborations that discount retailers have embarked on.  Target has showcased lines by Jean Paul Gaultier, Zac Posenhas, and has an ongoing relationship with designer Michael Graves.  Similar stores are getting in on the action of this idea too.  Kohls released a line by Jennifer Lopez, Sears unveiled a Kardashian Collection, and H&M offered a limited run of Versache dresses and accessories last winter.  These less expensive versions of high-end apparel seem to be the latest trend for thrifty shoppers, but the low-prices are becoming noticeably relative to low-quality.

  • College Fashion 101 - Style made easy!

Whether you’re going off to college for the first time, or heading back from summer break, there are certain must haves to make your back to school style fashionable and easy to maintain.  In High School it might have been the cool thing to buy a completely new wardrobe for school each year, but College life means living on a budget now.  Don’t go overboard with school clothes shopping anymore!  By adding just a few new pieces to your wardrobe, you don’t have to break the bank to be trendy this year.

College Fashion 2012 One major thing to remember about college is that your night life might be a lot different from your daytime routine.  Since you’ll want to look cute all the time, try buying a few basic wardrobe items that can be versatile.  For example: a blazer can be worn with skinny jeans or over a dress.  Basic tank tops are always useful to wear under clothes or on their own, and so are fitted tees.  Layering clothes is always popular In College because it can lead to a ton of different outfit combinations.  Bring some cardigans or sweaters that you can throw on overtop of your shirts once it gets cooler out, so that your warmer clothes can still get some use in the Fall.

However fashionable your outfit may be, once the cold air rolls in this November most of your classmates will only be seeing your fall or winter coat while you walk around campus.  Seventeen magazine mentions that buying a “stunning coat” for college can make you stand out.  Avoid the basic black peacoat this year and get something a little more colorful.  Try out a new pattern or take a risk with a brightly colored coat to make a fashion statement at college.

  • Trend Setter – The Hourglass Dress

This Fall there’s a new shape to fashion: The Hourglass.  Dresses this season are taking a step back in time to the prim fit that used to rule the world.  No longer just a vintage style from the 40s and 50s, The Hourglass Dress is hitting the mainstream.

The Hourglass Dress accentuates the bust and hips.  This fashion is known as the woman’s best friend, allowing you to show off your natural curves.  While there are stick thin models walking the runways, the real trend is feeling confident and comfortable in whatever shape you’re in.

Hourglass Dress Style Fall 2012Above: Miley Cyrus, Paris Hilton, and Jessica Alba rock the Hourglass Dress look

The 50’s fit gets an update this Fall with new modern prints and accessories.  Even if you don’t have an hourglass figure, like most of us, you can still pull off the Hourglass Dress.  Wear a blazer, jacket, or cardigan with your dress to give it a more modern feel, and add on a belt to your outfit for a cinched waist look.  Thick or thin belts worn at the waist will give you the hourglass look.
