Formal Homecoming Dress

With summer on its way out and fall 2017 almost here, it's time to update that wardrobe with new looks to take you into the cooler months. Of course, our favorite fall dress-up day is Homecoming, and there are six trends that we are obsessing over for Homecoming 2017. Check them out below for some great ideas to ensure you're totally on-trend for your back to school homecoming dance.

Trend #1: Lace Dresses

The most in-demand Homecoming 2017 styles starts with a trend that's been a staple over a few years now, for both Homecoming and Prom. That trend is lace! A dress embellished with lace details makes for such a timeless romantic look, and can easily be dressed up or down.

Trend #2: Green Dresses

Still trying to figure out what color to rock for Homecoming? Green is the color of choice for fall 2017! The reason that green is such a popular color this year is because Pantone named "Greenery" as the 2017 Pantone Color of the Year! Whether you rock a bright green color like the Color of the Year, or a darker hue, you'll be totally on-point with a green dress this fall.

Homecoming Season is coming up! You can tailor your look for Homecoming in many ways, like the Gothic Lolita for example. It’s a stylized take on the turn of the century vintage vogue with exaggerated puffy materials. Big bold floral patterns and lace edges can be very 80s Madonna inspired. Especially if you do hard accessories like a leather cuff or short booties. You can put big lace and tulle skirts together with contrasting accessories, like cowboy boots for example. There is also the Art deco inspired look. A classic style with geometric designs and heavy embellishment. Girls are getting very creative at making these styles all their own. There is a dress out there for you. Whether you want to reveal or conceal, any way you are most comfortable, today there really are no rules.

One impression to consider is the polished mode of the art deco movement. The tendency for this look to reemerge time and again is expected. Designers thrive when they pull their creativity from art trends in history. Art Deco is  both new and old, modern and understated.

Art Deco, Art Nouveau, and the Egyptian Revival Styles

If you are looking to do something bold, classic and completely chic, think about the art deco style. Vintage is making a comeback. Artists and Designers from the Art Nouveau are serving as design inspiration for contemporary looks for formal dresses. Graphic prints and embellished details in the bodice and sleeve, these are ideas that come from the cusp between the bohemian and art deco eras. If you ever peruse an art history book, you may recognize styles of dress from the subjects featured in works by Degas, Klimt and Sargent.

Turn on your inner fashionista and think back to the quality dresses Carrie Bradshaw wore on Sex and the City: bold prints, soft neutrals and always some sparkle. Seek out embroidered bodice, cap sleeve, flowing skirts and a mix of jewel tones and soft pastels. These elements come into play with today's fashions for the first reception of the year. There is a fun mix of pieces that refer back to the deco period of the 1920s, and dress forms that harken back to the 1950s. There is a variety of styles available, but the classic forms of the Art Deco era keep coming back in sleek and stylized ways.

With Spring and Summer here, it's officially Dress Season and we couldn't be more excited at Rissy Roo's! So, Prom and Graduation may be over, but warm weather means there's plenty of reasons to wear a dress. Dresses like this can be extra fun because you can mix and match the skirt and top with other styles of your choosing over and over again. This two piece dress also features a cut-out open back. Black by Blush C320 is all about lovely lace! It's a strapless cocktail dress with a modified sweetheart neckline constructed of thick netting and overlaid all over with gently beaded lace appliques. This is also a great dress for a formal event, but could also easily be dressed down for a night out with friends, too.

Homecoming Season is here! To ensure your special night goes perfectly, Twist Magazine recently chatted with Laura Marano, star of shows Without a Trace, Back to You, and Austin and Ally. Why did Twist catch up with Laura for a little Homecoming advice? Because she definitely knows a thing or two about getting dressed up for formal events!

Here's the tips she revealed to the magazine to make sure your night is perfect:

1. Be confident: "I think the most important tip is to wear what you feel comfortable in. If it's not 'in' — like the current trend or style — but you still love it, you should 100 percent wear it. I think if you love a dress and you feel comfortable in it, then that's the dress for you."

2. Consider your dress' length: "I think homecoming and winter formal dances [call for] shorter dresses. Prom is a big long dress scenario," the Austin & Ally star explains. "At the same time, if you're like me and love to dance at parties, you want to make sure the length is appropriate. There's nothing like having a super-short dress and being uncomfortable all night in it — that's actually the worst thing ever. So even though homecoming dresses are fun and short, make sure you feel comfortable with the length."

3. Have fun dressing up: "My school has a certain homecoming theme, and I think you can always have fun with a theme," Laura says. "For freshman year we had H2-Homecoming — it was a water theme. I wore a Betsy Johnson dress that reminded me of a mermaid. I thought it was awesome because it kind of went with the theme."

It's Fall, The Vampire Diaries Season Premiere was last night, and The Originals' had their show premiere earlier this week! We are most definitely back into the Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Paul Wesley spirit!

One thing that we're always loving is Nina's style. Not only does she wear some killer styles on The Vampire Diaries, but she never disappoints off-screen, either. Seventeen Magazine posted a picture of Nina all ready for the Fall months, wearing a leather jacket and purple ombre jeans that we're totally crushing over. She looked so chic, and we just can't get over the ombre look!
