Prom 2014

  • A Promposal Car in front of Rissy Roo's!

We were so excited this week to see a promposal...right in the parking lot of our store at Rissy Roo's in Linwood, NJ! Highschooler Tyler had the creative idea to make his date's car into her prom proposal by using car paint to write the promposal on her windshield. The promposal said:

"Will you go to Prom with me?

    --  Yes!  --  No  --  (Choose 1)  -- Love, Tyler."

    Car Promposal

We especially loved all of the cute hearts that were drawn all around the windshielf! The lucky date clearly said YES, since the "Yes!" was circled on the car, and she's now already at Rissy Roo's picking out a dress!

If you're still trying to find a cute way to ask your date to prom (whether you're the guy or the girl), this is a really easy and fun way to do it. It will definitely help to keep any feeling of pressure or anxiety to a minimum! Plus, once the date says "yes," they'll get to show off the promposal to all of their friends for weeks to come, which is always fun. If you want other great prom proposal ideas, just search for keyword "promposal" on our blog, or click here for our promposal blog posts (there's even promposals with celebs Bryan Cranston, Miley Cyrus, and Dwyane Wade!). And, of course, if you're still searching for that perfect prom dress, get searching on RissyRoos.com - it's not too late, and we're definitely here to help!

Congrats on getting your date with your promposal car idea, Tyler! We hope you two have an amazing time at Prom this year!

  • Bryan Cranston Helps a Fan Get a Date to Prom

The Miley Cyrus promposal has been topping our charts as the best prom proposal of 2014, but we may have just discovered a new favorite! Recently, Breaking Bad fan Stefan Montana ran into actor Bryan Cranston on the streets and asked Bryan to help him with his promposal. Of course, the awesome Bryan obliged to help...in the most badass Breaking Bad way possible! Check out the Bryan Cranston promposal here:

    http://youtu.be/u408FzkwW98

The title of the YouTube video is called "Bryan Cranston Got Me a Date to Prom!" so we can happily assume that Maddie gave a resounding "YES!" Of course, how could you say "no," to "the one who knocks" to begin with? Way too scary! If Maddie did give a "no" to the promposal, her best course of action definitely would be to tread lightly!

We love how ecstatic both Stefan and Bryan are towards the end of the promposal - they both seemed like they had a lot of fun with it! It's definitely always exciting to see a TV star as big as Bryan Cranston having fun with his fans. And, of course, with the Breaking Bad TV show finally over, it was nice to get a little taste of Walter White back in action. You're a lucky girl, Maddie, for getting such a unique promposal from your date (and from a celebrity)! We hope the two of you have a wonderful time at prom!

What did you think of the Bryan Cranston promposal? Do you wish you could get a celebrity in on your prompsal? We sure do! Make sure to keep your eyes peeled and your ears perked for opportunities!

    balloons promposal

The promposal that started it all! We saw this prom proposal idea that Missy posted of her son asking his girlfriend to prom with lots and lots of balloons and immediately fell in love and decided to go on a search for the Ultimate Promposal! Of course, we gave Missy's son a $50 gift certificate to give to his date to sweeten the deal. In case you were wondering, she said yes!

    Promposal-SwedishFish

This promposal from Jennifer was super sweet! Two ways to use the 'fish' idea in a promposal - "out of all the fish in the sea, will you go to prom with me?" and "You are the Swedish Fish in the Sea." Both so cute!

We even had a video promposal! Taylor sent this video in of her boyfriend, Spencer, asking her to prom in the middle of a huge audience at a basketball game. That definitely takes a lot of guts - cudos to you, Spencer!

    phone promposal

Sarah entered this creative prom proposal that was created on her iphone with app icons! For those that don't want to do something too over the top, this is a super easy idea, while still being able to show your creativity.

    friends promposal

Heather submitted this picture of her boyfriend, Taj, getting his friends involved for her promposal. What great friends!

  • Getting Ready for the Big Day – Your Prom Timeline

The sooner you start thinking about prom, the better – you want to feel prepared so that you aren't frazzled on the big day. Between finding a dress, a date, and a limo service, you've got a lot to figure out (not to mention you don't want to pay for all these things in the same week!).

Planning is a lot easier when you lay out everything that you have to do and form a loose schedule. Here's how we would do it.

    shutterstock_106478345

Three to Four Months in Advance

These are the things you might have already started doing, or should definitely start doing soon. The big one is finding a date, if you choose to go with one! If you've got your eye on someone, and they haven't asked you yet, you could always do the asking yourself. If not, you could always go alone and have a great time dancing! Of course, you should start shopping for prom dresses during this timeframe too, because your date is going to want to color coordinate and might have to rent a tux.

    Two Months in Advance

Book your limo or trolley, if you're taking one, two months in advance – remember, you might be competing with everyone else in your school or even local schools who have prom on the same night. You also want to figure out who else you'll be sharing the vehicle with so that you can round up some money. If you're not taking one, now's a good time to start making plans for getting to and from the venue. Finally, make a hair appointment if you're having someone do it professionally, because hair salons are busy this time of year and you can never book too far in advance.

    One Month in Advance

If necessary, a month in advance is a good time to get your dress altered if it's too long, too big, et cetera. Then, start accessory shopping for jewelry, shoes, and a clutch to match your dress. Start browsing hairstyles and makeup looks, and practicing if you're doing them yourself.

    Two Weeks in Advance

A few weeks before prom, start confirming appointments and reservations, like nail appointments and limo reservations. Decide where your group is going to meet for pictures and to be picked up by the limo, and make sure everyone is aware of the place and time. Find a local florist to order your date's boutonniere if you're taking someone.

One to Two Days in Advance

If you're not getting your hair and makeup done professionally, do a dry run to make sure that you can do it the way you want it. Pack your clutch with your prom survival kit: makeup touch-ups, makeup wipes, a travel-sized hairspray, a few extra bobby pins, a stain removal stick and some feminine products are always essential. Pick up the boutonniere if you ordered one, and do your nails or get them done.

    Get pretty and have fun!

  • Miley Cyrus Follows Through As Best Prom Date Ever!

Even though we have seen many types of "promposals" this season, we must say the story of Matt Peterson asking Miley Cyrus to be his prom date takes the cake! Matt, a mega fan of Miley, got the chance of a lifetime to meet the star when she picked him out of a group of screaming fans in a parking lot and asked him to join her on a local radio show. For Matt, it was love at first sight, and since the meet and greet Matt says Miley has changed his life. In order to repay her, Matt was determined to take the singer to his prom and show her a night she would never forget. To do so, he created a video, which may be the cutest and most daring "promposal" yet!

Even though the caring star would have loved to be Peterson's prom date, due to scheduling conflicts with her Bangerz concert tour, she was unable to accept the invitation. However, Miley did offer quite the consolation prize and invited Matt to her Arizona concert! Super excited for the show, Matt created his own unique prom "tuxedo" covered in 162 iron-on pictures of Miley's tongue, which she loves to stick out when posing for the paparazzi. Impressed with Matt's efforts, Miley gave him the real prom experience by creating prom style photos and inviting him on stage! She ended the evening by serenading Matt with her song "Adore You." We are so impressed with Miley's energy and passion for her beloved fan, and so is Matt! If you ask him..."She was the nicest person. I thought I was in love with her before—she's the most amazing person." Way to go, Matt, for taking the chance on a super star..and  Miley for possibly being the best prom date ever!

  • 2014's Most Coveted Prom Accessories

So you've got your show-stopping dress… but how are you going to accessorize? After all, that perfect piece of jewelry or eye-catching clutch can really bring the entire look together.

Don't forget what Coco Chanel said, though: "When accessorizing, always take off the last thing you put on." The point is that less is more when you're trying to make a statement. If you've got too many things going on, it can be distracting. So, choose accessories, but choose wisely.

If you want to choose wisely, you have to know where to begin! Here's a list of what all 2014's prom fashionistas are coveting this year, so you can get some ideas of what you think is hot or not.

    Volcano Crystal Jewelry

volcano crystalA simple pair of clear crystal earrings is a great way to accentuate a va-va-voom dress. But sometimes, when you choose a solid-colored dress with minimal details, you want a little something to take it up a few notches. Volcano crystals are perfect for exactly that! These somewhat iridescent, multi-colored crystals have all the elegance of crystal earrings with the many different ways they can be cut and shaped, but they're just a little more eye-catching.

    Sequin Clutches

Screenshot_2Every girl loves a little sparkle and shine, so luckily, sequin clutches are the most stylish form of hand-candy this year. These small-but-mighty bags pick up on any shimmery detailing on your dress without stealing the show. Plus, they're perfectly practical for carrying some emergency makeup, a cell phone, and a few dollars in cash without being a burden.

    Rose Gold

    rose gold

In terms of shoes, dress accents, and jewelry, rose gold is a hot trend this year – and we absolutely love it. It's a weird rule of fashion that you're either a "silver" or a "gold" – that your skin color only looks good in one or the other. Rose gold is the perfect compromise. The pink-ish sheen gives it a little something girly while still being delicate, and it can be prepared with nearly any color without being the "obvious" choice.

    Glitter Platforms

    glitter

Some girls go for understated shoes beneath their dresses, but glitter platforms are for those of us who aren't those girls. The substantial platform beneath the heel means that even though they're sky-high, they're not painful to walk in because there's plenty of support. The glittery finish says "glamour" and "look at me!" – they're not the shoes for anyone who doesn't love the spotlight.

At the end of the day, there are so many routes you can take when accessorizing prom dresses. Whether you want something vintage and a little Audrey Hepburn-inspired, or you want to go over-the-top glam, that's going to affect your accessory choices. Sometimes, though, seeing what's on-trend can help you make that decision!
