Prom 2014

We can't believe March is officially here already! It may still be freezing cold out, but Spring is just around the corner (the first day of Spring in 2014 is March 20th...only 16 days away!) and it's definitely time to start making sure you're Prom Ready if you haven't started yet.

What do we mean when we say that it's time to get prom ready? Well, it may be too early on to have a date yet and to start planning some of the simpler things like the limo and what you and your friends will be doing for After Prom, but it's definitely time to start putting your outfit together. Finding that perfect prom dress is obviously the most important factor, but don't forget that it's also important to pick out your high heels, a clutch, jewelry and accessories, and even your makeup and hairstyle.

We recommend starting with finding your dress first, since that can be the most tedious process with deciding what color, overall style, and length you want. You also want to make sure to leave enough time to get the dress hemmed to fit you perfectly. But, some people are obsessed wearing stand-out accessories, like eye-turning heels or a bold purse. If you're one of those people, you may find it helpful to plan your dress around the shoes or purse you want to wear with your outfit.

If you need some inspiration on where to start and love the dress in our image above, it's Nina Canacci style 7014. It's a hand beaded chiffon sleeveless gown that features a sweetheart neckline and a V shaped back. The straps and bodice are adorned with intricate pattern of beautiful embellishments, and the flowing skirt is emphasized with soft layers that cascades to a full length. The color shown above is Bubble Gum, but it also comes in an Aqua color.

The 86th Annual Academy Awards have finally come and gone, and they were as great as we could have ever expected! Ellen DeGeneres was destined to be the host of the Oscars - she was so funny! And, we absolutely loved Jared Leto's acceptance speech for his work in Dallas Buyers Club (of course, we were also totally in love with the way he looked!). But, as always, our eyes were on the Red Carpet and all the gorgeous dresses that the celebrities wore! Yesterday we showed your our favorite Oscar Worthy Prom Dresses, but now that the lady celebrities have showed off their dresses, here's our best dressed on the 2014 Oscars Red Carpet Check and how you can steal their looks for prom.

Anna Kendrick blew us away at the Academy Awards! The Twilight star's black cut-out and sheer dress was so on-trend and looked so perfect on her! We also loved how she accessorized with red nails and a matching red purse. Red and black are always a great combination, and Anna showed us exactly why.

You can so easily get Anna's look with Night Moves by Allure style 7017. This striking gown features similar geometric sheer cut-outs to Anna's gown and is form-fitting in all of the right ways. This dress also comes in Ivory and Red if you want a color that stands our a little more than the classic black look.

Jennifer Lawrence always comes up with stylish looks to wear to awards ceremonies and this year's Oscars was definitely no different. We loved the bright, bold red peplum dress that she chose to wear. She looked so classy!

To get The Hunger Games star's look, check out Jovani style 73539. It's a sexy long evening gown that features a beautiful sheer sweetheart neckline, peplum at the waist, sexy open back and beautiful tulle panel detailing at the skirt. It's such a unique way to wear peplum at prom!

The 2014 Oscars is tonight and we cannot be more excited here at Rissy Roo's! The end of the 2014 Awards Season may be upon us, but this is the biggest night of all Red Carpet nights, and we can't wait to see all the gorgeous dresses that will be worn by the stars. Like we mentioned earlier this week in our "Ireland Baldwin in Mac Duggal" post, this is the 86th Academy Awards, and this year it's being hosted by Ellen DeGeneres. The Oscars begins at 7:00 EST on ABC, and you can watch the Oscars Red Carpet live coverage starting at 5:25pm from Entertainment Tonight.

Award Season is about to make its grand finale with the 2014 Oscars and we can't wait! The 86th Academy Awards is being held this coming Sunday, March 2014, and it will definitely be one to watch because the funny talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is hosting.

Many of our favorite dress designers have been all over the Award Season red carpets, but there's been one designer we've been waiting to make an appearance: Mac Duggal. With prom on the way, we are all super busy trying to find the prom dress and accessories of our dreams to ensure our night is perfect! Not to mention the organizing of plans and parties, we are exploring with hairstyles and makeup trends to figure out what kind of prom look we want. With all the shopping and searching and planning, we may have overlooked one minor detail...what about a date? If you haven't been asked yet, don't fret as there is still plenty of time for your dream guy to ask you. We love this cute idea of "winging" the promposal with some chicken wings! First of all, what guy doesn't like wings?? And, secondly, it's a cute way to remind the person that you're asking that you are doing something sincere that you've never done before, and will hopefully be a reminder for him to be sincere with a response in return!

Bold Promposal Approach

If you're a "go big or go home" type of girl, you may want to do something a little more bold for your promposal. Whether you just want a cute way to ask your boyfriend to prom, or you're on a mission to prove how much this your potential date MUST go to prom with you, or it just seems like something fun to do, a bold promposal can seem scary, but also very rewarding! Bolder, bigger ideas can also be fun ways to have friends aid you in the process! With all of the snow that's been coming down this weekend, we thought the below idea of carving our "PROM?" in the snow was such a cute idea! This one's bold in the sense that it's BIG, but it's super fun, which helps to take any scariness out of the idea.

Whatever promposal idea or approach you decide to take, and whatever the outcome ends up being, just remember to have fun! Our first Prom Preview Party, held on Friday, January 31st was one super success story! Held from 6pm to 9pm in our store, there were models, giveaways, free gifts, music and all of the latest styles of dresses from the top designers to shop for!

The day started early for our Roo Girls, as they were pampered and dolled up for the big night by the stylists of local Salon Oh! located in Ventnor, New Jersey. The talented team applied trendy make-up and gorgeous prom curls and up-dos to our beautiful models before they put on their prom dresses!

After all the prepping, the pink carpet was rolled out for the Prom Preview 2014 Party, the prom playlist was pumped up, and the store was full of girls ready to check out the latest trends for prom 2014! With so many designers and styles to choose from, finding the perfect dress was fun and exciting! Every dress purchase included a free pair of shoes up to a $50 value, and as the girls walked throughout the store, they were given light-up sunglasses and rings, Rissy Roo's exclusive pink LED lip gloss, candy, and raffle tickets to win awesome prizes! The drawings included a bag, shoes, a $50 gift certificate and last but not least...A FREE DRESS! Our winner, Gabrielle Sear had the ultimate prom princess moment when her name was announced. She dazzled on the pink carpet as she posed with a big smile in her chosen gown, Sparkle Prom style 71301!

Just a couple of weeks ago we wrote about how stunned we were to see Nia Long at the Critics' Choice Awards in Jovani 77542. Well, she wasn't the only celebrity at the 2014 Critics' Choice Awards wearing one of our favorite dresses designers. Kylie Erica Mar was at the awards show wearing another one of our designers: Mac Duggal!

Kylie wore Mac Duggal style 82019, a stunning gown that's designed to deliver that WOW factor, whether worn on the red carpet or to prom! Sexy illusion cutouts accent the waist with beautiful silver beading and sequins. The jersey prom gown features a plunging neckline and sexy open back, trimmed with more sophisticated beading along the sides. The full skirt carefully fits your body to give you ease of movement and an exciting night.

Kylie wore the dress so perfectly! We loved her choice to keep her hair down and parted to the side - it accented the gown nicely while still showing off the sexy neckline and open back. Her dark cat eyes were a perfect accent to the sleek black lines of the skirt. Keeping her accessories simple with one silver bangle and a silver clutch was also a great choice, allowing the dress to speak for itself.

If you haven't caught Kylie on TV yet, she is the reporter for Made in Hollywood, where she interviews many of Hollywood's biggest starts, including Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford, and many, many more. If there's anyone who knows how to dress like a star on the red carpet, it's definitely her! If you haven't noticed yet from our 2014 People's Choice Awards and Golden Globes posts, Award Season is officially in full swing! The PCAs and GGs are officially over, and we're now onto the 19th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards, and you better believe the red carpet was full of such gorgeous dresses!

Our favorite look of the night was worn by Best Man Holiday actress Nia Long, who wore one of our favorite dress designers, Jovani, on the 2014 Critics' Choice Awards red carpet. She wore Jovani style 77542, a curve-hugging jersey cutout gown. The age-defying actress looks amazing in just about anything, but this sheer cutout dress looked exceptionally perfect on her! The dress hugged her curves so perfectly, showing off just the right amount of skin with the sheer cutouts and open back.

During the awards ceremony, Nia hit the stage with actor Kellan Lutz to present the Best Young Actor/Actress award to Adele Exarchopoulos for her work in the film Blue Is the Warmest Color. Congrats, Adele! Continue reading →
