  • What to Wear to a Sweetheart Dance

Valentine's Day time of course also means it's Sweetheart Dance time! Having trouble figuring out what to wear to your Sweetheart Dance? Since it's an event to celebrate Valentine's Day, we recommend picking a red or pink dress. Purple or white are also great colors to choose if you want to show some Valentine's Day love but don't like the traditional red or pink. If those four hues don't work for you, black is always a staple color that you can wear to any event!

As far as the type of dress goes, choose a strapless/sleeveless cocktail dress. You can either go with the traditional fitted cocktail dress, or choose one that flares out at the waist for a more flowy look. We picked out our favorite Valentine's Day dresses for a Sweetheart Dance below and put them into a cute Polyvore set to give you some ideas on what to wear! You can also click here for more Valentine's Day dresses.

  • How to Dress for Valentine's Day

Whether single or attached, Valentine's Day is right around the corner! With only 2 weeks left until February 14th, it's a perfect time to start planning your outfit. Every woman should obviously choose an outfit that they feel sexy in on this night, but it's also important to find one that you can feel comfortable and confident in. Even if you don't have a hot date, it's still a great night to go out and have some fun with your girlfriends. And, you definitely want to make sure that you'll be making a statement and turning some heads! For this day, don't feel like you need to go all-out with a fancy, sequined outfit like you might wear on New Year's Eve. In general, it's best to go with a simple, classic dress that accentuates your body. It's all about finding a nice balance between fancy and casual for this night out - choosing something that you'd wear to a nice dinner and a movie date is usually a good gauge!

If you want to show some holiday spirit, choose a red or pink dress, but you can always go with a simple Little Black Dress. A purple dress can also be a fun choice for showing off the V-Day colors if you want to avoid going the traditional red and pink route. We picked out our 3 favorite Valentine's Day dresses below (one for each color: red, pink, & black), so you can get some ideas for the big night!

If you want a red dress, we love Sherri Hill style 5002. It's a simple, short cocktail bandage dress that is sure to show off your curves, and it's definitely a dress that you'll find many uses for well after Valentine's Day. It also comes in colors black, navy, and white.

La Femme style 17494 is a perfect choice if you're looking for a pink dress. Amazing and sexy, this short cocktail dress is complete with a V-shaped front and back and has intricate beading all over the bodice. The dress comes in a light pink, blush, color, so you can show some Valentine's Day love without screaming it. It also comes in nude, if you want to forego the traditional V-Day colors altogether!

For a traditional Little Black Dress, Mori Lee style 9200 is perfect for V-Day because of the beautiful lace all over it. This LBD is both classy and sexy at the same time, and can definitely be worn for a bunch of different occasions. It also comes in a nude color, which really shows off the intricate lace detailing on the dress.

  • Michelle Obama in Red at the Inauguration

Michelle Obama looked absolutely stunning in red on Monday night as her husband was once again inaugurated as the President of the United States of America! The first lady wore a flowy chiffon red gown by Jason Wu. We loved that she wore a warm color in winter - it was making us excited that Spring and Summer are just around the corner! The best part about the dress, though, was that it was so flattering to her arms, the First Lady's most well known feature.

Red in any dress is definitely a great way to stand out, and works well with many different skin tones. And, with Valentine's Day right around the corner, it's definitely the go-to color to look sexy! Whether for Valentine's Day or Prom, there are many different red dresses to choose from. Check out our Red Evening Dresses to find your perfect Michelle Obama inspired prom dress, or peruse our Valentine's Day section to get some ideas if you have a hot date to impress!

La Femme 18769 is a red evening gown that's perfect for prom.

La Femme 18110 is a sexy short red dress that will make a statement on Valentine's Day.

  • Dressing Up for Thanksgiving Dinner

Halloween is officially over, and we're now in our first week of November - that means the next holiday coming up is Thanksgiving!

Dressing up for Thanksgiving all depends on what type of Thanksgiving dinner the host has put together; some have very casual dinners (where you can wear jeans...or even sweatpants if you're just staying home!), but others have a more formal dinner (and by "more formal," we just mean a little more dressed up than normal, versus an actual formal event, like prom). If you're going to a more dressy dinner, it's good to look nice, but no need to go over the top. Read on for some of our tips on finding the right outfit for a more dressy Thanksgiving dinner.

Since it's Thanksgiving, a more comfortable option is to go with a stretchy or loose fitting dress (like a tunic dress). You'll be glad you chose this type of dress while eating all the food that comes along with the holiday (especially since they hide the tummy)! Two of our favorite more loose fitting dresses are from Shail K. - styles KK3143 and KK3149.

Style KK3143 is a Grecian style flowy dress that comes in colors red and black - both colors are perfect for a Thanksgiving dinner! Style KK3149 is a tunic dress that can be worn with leggings for a more casual look or with stockings to dress it up. It comes in colors black and ivory, however we recommend going with black for Thanksgiving (you'll see why below!).

Another important thing to keep in mind with this holiday surrounded by eating is the potential to drop the food on your clothes. Whether you tend to be a very clumsy person or not, it's inevitable that something will be spilled during the night. Because of this, we recommend picking dark colors or prints that will hide any gravy, stuffing, or cranberry sauce that may find its way onto you. Going with a white or light colored dress may leave you showing off your dinner, rather than your fashionable outfit; with Thanksgiving being in Fall, the darker colors are part of the festive vibe of the holiday, anyway. Scroll down to see some more darker colored dresses that are perfect for Thanksgiving.

Mac Duggal 76171R comes in colors red & black
Sherri Hill 1522 comes in colors black, red, ivory, navy, nude, & plum
Evenings by Allure A365 comes in chocolate & is on sale for only $39.99!

  • Accessorizing Your Formal Dress for Halloween

Halloween is a great excuse for you to go over the top. But why buy a costume when you can use an outfit from your closet...or get those clothes you've been wanting? Just by adding a few accessories to your favorite dress, you can instantly be part of the Halloween spirit and have the dress to wear again any time of the year (without the Halloween accessories of course)! Read on to see how we added some accessories to some classic formal dresses to make them ready for Halloween!

    Little Black Dress

You can get great use out of any black dress. This Clarisse black one shoulder hi-lo dress is one of our personal favorites (style 2174). Just add kitty ears, a witch hat, or vampire teeth, and you're all ready for Halloween! The real bonus, though, is that a Little Black Dress can be used for so many different occasions that you'll never run out of places and reasons to wear it.

    Fringe Dress

The fringe dress has been a very popular style lately. The look is taken from the 1920s flapper style, so with this in mind, this type of dress is great to turn into a flapper girl outfit!  This black Mac Duggal fringe cocktail dress (style 3479T) and Touch Ups Peacock high heals are perfect to be a flapper girl.

    White Dress

White formal dresses are always stand-out pieces at any event. For Halloween, just add wings and you can be a beautiful angel! One of our favorite white dresses is the Mac Duggal style 6383N, which has a beautiful  fully sequined top and layered ruffles of chiffon on the skirt. The Sizzle by Coloriffics Inez high heals are a great way to add some extra glitter to the outfit!

    Red Dress

Red dresses are always a sexy choice. And for Halloween, where there's a white dress for an angel, there must also be a red dress for the devil. Turn this La Femme 18110 cocktail dress into a devil by adding horns and a tail.

  • Fall 2012 Trends – Back to School Beauty

    Geometry 101 – Eyeliner Styles

Geometric shaping around the eyes will be all the rage this Fall, says Elle magazine.  Get creative with your eyeliner and try out something more risqué like long wings at the corners, thick lines, and dots.  Adding something more to your basic eyeliner and shadow will bring a new shape and feeling to your entire look.  Also in style for the season are bold, full colors along the eyelid.  Mixing in some bold eye shadow colors to your pallet can additionally bring more attention to your beautiful eyes!

    Makeup Trends Fall 2012

    History Lesson – Fall Hairstyles

Daniel at Fashioning says that this season, hairstyles are getting Vintage.  The 1960s ponytail, side braid,  and classic wavy bob from the 40s are taking over.  These hair trends are bringing us back in time and making it a little easier to style our hair each morning.  This Vintage mix is really about comfort and staying casual.  Any straight hair will look fab in a long, low ponytail, while those with curly locks are in luck too with manageable braids or a bob look.

    Biology Class – Boxy Bangs

Everyone will be adding prim and proper bangs to their hairstyle this Fall 2012 season.  Straight, boxy, full bangs can completely change your style.  Bangs bring an edgy look and can be a super stylish addition to hairstyles this Fall.  All year at Fall 2012 runway fashion shows and previews, the boxy bang has been dominant for models wearing the latest trends.  There are so many different styles of bangs so you’re bound to find a style that suits you.  If you’re not sure what will look good with your face shape just ask your hairstylist for a suggestion.

    Drama Club – Red Lips

Makeup trends seem to be all about the shock factor this Fall.  If you’re looking to liven up your makeup style, pick up a luscious stick of red lipstick on your next shopping trip.  Deep and bright red lips are totally Vintage, fitting in with the Hairstyles this Fall, and add another burst of color to compliment your geometric eyeliner techniques.  Red is the ideal color for Fall, fitting in well with the season change.  The great thing about red lips, they’re classic and will go with anything you wear!
