  • The Amount Teens Are Spending On Promposals in 2015 is Unbelievable!

Well, it's official: promposals are the best thing since sliced bread (and by sliced bread we mean a beautiful prom dress) when it comes to prom. A new nationwide study released by Visa Inc on March 31, 2015 shows just how popular promposals have gotten (by the way, if you want an 'official' definition of a 'promposal,' Visa describes it as: "elaborate invitations to the high school prom that can mirror a marriage promposal.").

Believe it or not, promposals are costing the average American household with teens $324 in 2015! Gone are the days of a simple note on the car of the person you plan on asking.

Visa Inc Promposals InfographicIn Visa's press release about their survey, they explain:

"Promposals have become significantly more extravagant in recent years and now represent in excess of one third of the $919 total that the average prom-going teen will spend on the dance in 2015....While total prom spending is down 6% this year from the $978 that parents and teens forked over in 2014, Visa added the category of promposal spending for the first time to the company's annual survey."

Just a few days ago, we had mentioned in a blog post how popular promposals have become this year. This survey certainly proves it! Visa notes that the average prom-going teen will spend $919 total in 2015; this means that just the prom proposal is one third the total cost for the average prom-goer this year.

While promposals are so much fun and definitely worth the time and effort to put into creating one, we have to agree with Visa's head of U.S. Financial Education, Nat Sillian, that spending $300+ on a promposal may be a little overboard.

Visa has the tools to help out, though! Visa offers a free Plan'it Prom App to help teens plan out their entire prom extravaganza on a budget. Visit PracticalMoneySkills.com/Prom for how to download the app for iOS and Android devices.

  • Roo Girl Janey's Surprise Tennis Court Promposal!

There have been so many unique promposals this year, from a promposal delivered by police to a high schooler asking an Eagles linebacker to prom. With promposals and prom in the air, we're so excited to share a new promposal with you. Why is this one so special? It came from one of our very own Roo Girls!

Janey, who is one of the Roo Girls that works at the Rissy Roo's store in Linwood, NJ, is a student at Atlantic City High School and her Senior Prom is fast approaching. Since it's her senior year of high school, of course she has to go out with a bang, and she's off to a good start since she was asked to attend prom by way of a promposal!

Janey's Surprise Promposal on the Tennis Court

Ready for how this adorable picture came to be? Janey plays on the girls tennis team at ACHS, but is also the manager of the boys tennis team. The boys coach called her and asked her to come to practice to help with a couple of things for the team. When she arrived, the coach asked her to take some pictures of the team... and of course first they wanted to have a shirtless picture taken. Five of the boys took their shirts off, and when they did, their chests spelled out, "PROM?" Then, her friend Danny came out, handed her bouquet of flowers, and asked if Janey would attend prom with him. Of course, Janey said, "YES!"

Such a cute promposal! Since both Janey and Danny are tennis players, could there be a better place than a tennis court for their promposal to take place?! And, Danny getting his teammates and even his coach involved in the promposal is super impressive! We give this tennis promposal the Roo Girl approval all the way! We can't wait fir Janey and Danny to finally attend prom together and hear how amazing their night was after it's all over!

  • Girl Gets Pulled Over By Police. What Was Her Ticket For? A PROMPOSAL!

Promposals have been getting more and more popular each year, and this Prom 2015 season has definitely taken the prom proposals to a whole new level. No more does simply writing a note with a accompanying flowers or a teddy bear work. Now, it's all about dressing up as Prince Charming for the day or coming up with some other totally unique idea.

Girl Gets Pulled Over By Police. What Was Her Ticket For? A PROMPOSAL! Lauren with the police who delivered her promposal!

Well, Amesbury High School junior Nick Fortuna, from Boston, Massachusetts, certainly found a very new and unique way to turn the normal note and flower routine into a very special promposal for his girlfriend Lauren Fedorchak. Believe it or not, Nick got the police involved in delivering a promposal! Nick asked police officer Ronald Guilmette to pull over his girlfriend at a traffic stop. Lauren gave the officer her license and registration. When the police officer returned, she received a "ticket," but instead of a traffic citation, the ticket said, "Prom with Tuna?"

Nick was waiting in Officer Guilmette's police car the whole time. Once Lauren was given her ticket, he came over to Lauren's car to surprise her in purse and give her flowers. Of course, Lauren said "YES!"

On Wednesday at approximately 3:15PM Officer Guilmette and Amesbury High School junior Nick Fortuna conducted a motor...

Posted by Amesbury Police Department (OFFICIAL) on Wednesday, March 25, 2015

There have been so many amazing promposals this year, but this one may have taken the cake in our book! It's pretty impressive to get the police involved! And, major props to the Amesbury Police Department for being such good sports and helping Nick with his promposal. What do you think of this police promposal? Would you have gotten scared getting pulled over?

  • Get The Pretty Little Liars Prom Dresses From The Season 5 Finale!

The Pretty Little Liars Season 5 finale was so intense that we almost couldn't take it! The girls had to trade their fabulous sense of style in for prison jumpsuits in this episode, and this may have been one of the all time creepiest PLL episodes, but that didn't stop us from keeping our eyes on the prize: the beautiful prom dresses that the PLL girls wore! Our favorite Pretty Little Liars prom dresses, of course, were hands-down Hanna's, Ashley Benson, and Emily's, Shay Mitchell. Why? Because they're made by two of our favorite designers, which means you can get the same exact looks for prom!

Pretty Little Liars Season 5 Finale

Hanna Marin's PLL Season 5 Finale Prom Dress

Hanna Marin looked radiant in red with Sherri Hill style 32107. This dress is a strapless mermaid gown with a sweetheart neckline, beaded lace bodice and a satin skirt with a short train. The dress fit her like a glove! We especially loved that she accessorized with black elbow-length gloves. The combo of the elegant gown with the gloves stayed true to the opera theme.

Emily Fields' PLL Season 5 Finale Prom Dress

Emily Fields took romantic to the next level with her prom dress: Mac Duggal style 78897, which is part of the Prom 2015 Mac Duggal Royalty collection. Emily (Shay) sure did look like royalty in the dress! Just like Hanna, Emily added elbow-length gloves for that extra touch of elegance.

Mac Duggal 78897This sophisticated dress features sheer illusion cap sleeves and a high collar that is reminiscent of the most popular runway fashions. Sparkling like none other, the sheer illusion cap sleeves are decorated with silver beading and crystals. Creating a sexy look with a plunging v-neckline that leads to a starburst embellishments along the waistline, this gorgeous evening gown is all about making a serious statement.

  • Prom Primping: Most Flattering Hairstyles for Different Necklines

Some of us spend just as long browsing online for the perfect prom hairstyle as we do shopping for dresses. It seems like the least of your concerns at first, but as the big day inches near, you realize you're totally clueless – especially if you're doing your hair yourself! Finding something that's elegant but easy can be really tricky, and on top of that, you want something that complements the neckline of the dress. That's why we've compiled a list of a few different hairstyles that you can definitely do yourself and that will also turn your dress into an ensemble.

    Halter Tops: Loose Braid

    roos1

Halter tops are tricky because you want to show off the pretty neckline, but they do show a lot of shoulder, which can cause some visual imbalance for those of us who are a bit broader across the top. Piling all your hair on top of your head can leave your shoulder area looking a little bare, while wearing it all down will cover up that pretty neckline. We think Blake Lively makes a good compromise by doing a loose fishtail braid thrown over her shoulder. You can wear it up high like hers, or you can start it down at the nape of your neck for a more beachy look. It helps that this style is super easy!

    Spaghetti Straps: Tousled Chignon

    roos2

When your dress has delicate elements on top, such as spaghetti straps, you want to play off of it with a delicate hairstyle. A tousled side-chignon, like the one Jessica Alba is wearing, is the perfect way to create a look that's feminine and romantic. Some subtle jewelry, like long earrings and a small bracelet, can really bring it all together. Click here for an easy chignon tutorial!

    One-Shoulder: Ballerina Bun

    roos3

Nobody opts for a dramatic, one-shoulder neckline with the intention of covering it up! Asymmetrical necklines are a show-stopper, so let them do all the talking by keeping your hair up and away. There's nothing more chic than a sleek ballerina bun with this neckline – it's such an elegant and classic hairstyle for a dress that has an edge. Go for natural eye makeup, a shimmery highlight, and a bold lip if you really want to make a statement with your style.

    Strapless/Sweetheart: Loose Side Waves

    roos4

Strapless dresses are well-loved as prom styles, and admittedly, they leave a lot of room to play around with hairstyles. That being said, there's nothing we love more than letting some loose waves fall over one shoulder when wearing a strapless dress. It reads slightly retro and extremely glam – just look how amazing Amy Adams looks in this look!  Here's an easy tutorial so you can do it yourself.

    High Neck: Chic Ponytail

    roos5

High necklines are all the rage this year – everyone from Kate Blanchett to Adriana Lima is wearing them. In our opinion, they look sleek and maybe a little bit mysterious when paired with a clean, simple ponytail. Just look at Allison Williams – she pulls off this look perfectly a bold red lip!

  • A Prom Surprise Transforms Abby From Patient to Princess

Normal life is like a dream for 17 year old Abby Gladin from Atlanta, Georgia, who is living with Crohn's disease, a chronic inflammatory bowl illness. For the last 10 years now, she's been in and out of hospitals and doctors appointments, getting countless surgeries and missing out on tons of school. She lives such a difficult life, so one of her dreams is just to live a normal life. And one of the most normal and fun parts of any teenager is going to prom, of course. In Abby's own words, all she wants is "a night of simple, sophisticated elegance." We certainly couldn't blame her.

Abby Gladin going prom dress shopping

So, one day while walking out of a routine doctor's appointment, she got an amazing surprise. She found her parents telling her that they'd be taking her on an extra special prom dress shopping expedition, complete with her own chauffeured car from Uber, all arranged by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The car took everyone to a boutique in Georgia, where she could pick any dress she wanted for free! She told 11alive.com, "I feel so special!"

Some dresses were harder than others to wear because of her colostomy, a medical device attached to her abdomen, but she searched away! She explained, "I want my dress to be something you'd see on the red carpet." After lots of looking, they found Abby's perfect dress (she said "yes" to the dress!) and she looked so gorgeous that her mother couldn't help but cry. Her mom explained, "Some days she doesn't see how really beautiful she is because of this." We sure hope this whole experience helped to show Abby just how special she is!

That wasn't the end of her special day of prom shopping, though. Miss Georgia and Miss Colorado stopped by to place a special princess crown on Abby's head!

Abby with Miss Colorado and Miss Georgia!

Even though the end of the school year will bring more surgeries, Abby can look forward to a special night in a special dress with her boyfriend. 11alive.com said that they will update the story once Abby attends prom with pictures of her all dressed up, so keep a look-out!
