  • A Girl With Down Syndrome Gets A Special Promposal

Prom can not only be a fun time to dress up and have a special night out with friends, but it can also be a time for very special things to happen. Recently one of those very special moments happened at a high school in Kentucky. A basketball star at Eastern High School in Louisville, Kentucky, Trey Moses, asked a girl with Down Syndrome, Ellie Meredith, to be his prom date in the sweetest way possible. He proposed to her with a bouquet of flowers and a sign that referenced Taylor Swift, the girl's favorite singer.

    Trey Asks Ellie to Prom

Trey was originally going to ask his girlfriend to go to prom with him, but decided to ask Ellie instead. He texted Ellie's parents the night before to get their permission, and they were happy to say "OK!"

So, the next day, he showed up to Ellie's PE class with a sign saying, "Let's Party Like It's 1989." And, party they will do because Ellie said YES to the promposal!

This all happened in part due to a special program that Trey volunteers for, called Best Buddies. CNN, who wrote about the story, explained that "Best Buddies cultivates friendships between students with and without developmental disabilities and prevents students like Ellie from feeling isolated and left out of social functions. Trey also explained that he wanted to take Ellie to prom because, "She's great...she listens and she's easy to talk to."

Ellie is so excited for prom and can't stop thinking about it, saying, "I've only told about a million people!" Her mom explained, "Ellie can't wait to go dress shopping." We hope Trey and Ellie have an amazing time together at prom!

  • Creative Promposal Ideas

There's many ways to ask someone to prom (called a promposal!) - you can keep it simple and go with a straightforward invitation, or you can get as creative as your mind lets you! Whether you're a girl asking the guy to prom, or waiting for the guy to ask you, it's always fun to find a creative, unique way to do it. After all, it's a special night and one you'll never forget, so there's nothing wrong with making the invitation special, too!

We've been especially loving searching Pinterest for all of the cute ways people are being asked to prom. Below are some of our favorites - we hope they give you some great ideas of your own!

    Simple

If you want to keep your promposal simple, there's still plenty of creative ways that you can ask the question. We love the idea of getting a Starbucks barista to write "Prom?" on a specially made drink for your sweetheart. It's so simple, but will be sure to take your date by surprise and put a big smile on his or her face. The icing on the cake to asking your date with this method is to make sure you order his or her favorite drink.

Another simple and cute way to ask someone to prom is with a teddy bear, of course! Because, who doesn't love teddy bears? A cute thing to do to add a personal touch could be to spray the bear with your perfume or cologne; this way, the bear will smell like you.

    Romantic

Looking for a romantic way to ask someone to prom? We love the idea of asking on a ferris wheel - it will feel like the movies!

    Ferris wheel

Another super romantic way to get asked to prom is with lots and lots of roses, of course! We love this photo of a boyfriend asking his girlfriend to prom by spelling out "Prom?" on her bed with rose pedals.

    Super Sweet

For a super sweet promposal, you can't go wrong with...sweets! Find a unique and fun way to pop the question with cookies, cupcakes, or chocolate, and you'll be sure to have a sweet, sweet evening.

We love the idea of getting custom M&M's that say "Prom?" on them! It really shows that the person put a lot of time and effort into the idea. After all, they have to be specially ordered from M&M's.

    M&M's

If you love baking, put your skills to work and make your own sweets for your promposal. We love how creative these cookies are - you choose the cookie that displays your answer. (How couldn't you say "heck yes!"??)

    Fun and Cheesy

Finding a funny way to ask your date to prom can help to lighten to mood for something that can seem serious and a little scary. Coming up with a cute slogan like, "Out of all the fish in the sea, will you go to prom with me?" will lighten the mood in an instant and have you both giving a good chuckle. And of course, how could you say "no" to a new little fishy friend? Just make sure to take care of it.

    Fish

When we say cheesy, we mean cheesy! We thought this idea was just too cute, and for sure gave us a good laugh. It's definitely a fun...and delicious...way to ask your date to prom. If you're a girl looking for cute ways to ask a guy to prom, they always say the best way to a man's heart through his stomach.

    Pizza Pie

    Personal and Meaningful

If you are in a relationship with the person you want to ask to prom, it's always a good choice to find a more meaningful way to ask the question. Since you are in a committed relationship with the person, you already know that you can expect a resounding "yes" to your promposal, so you can really pull out all the stops without being afraid! Especially for the seniors, this is probably your last big event of the year with your significant other, so make it special.

The Disney movie "UP" is both a sad and happy movie about a widower, so we loved seeing how a boyfriend found a creative way to incorporate the movie into his promposal.

    Balloons 400x400

It hands down doesn't get much cuter than asking someone to prom with a kitty! But, we put this in the "Personal and Meaningful" section because this is not something you want to do without knowing that the person you are giving the cat to can take care of the animal. You should talk to your date and his or her family ahead of time to make sure that they are ready, willing, and able to take care of the kitty as their new family pet.

  • After Prom Party Ideas

Prom is going to be so much fun, you won't want that awesome night to end. So of course you want to continue the party elsewhere. If you or your friends haven't planned anything yet, have no fear...Rissy Roo's is here! With the help of Seventeen Magazine, we are going to list some of our favorite ideas for an after prom party. With these ideas, you'll be looking forward to what's after prom more than the dance! Go ahead...check'em out!

    Bonfire Party

It's almost summer time and a bonfire on the beach or an open field would be ideal! It's the perfect way to end prom night and to start the season of summer fun. Who doesn't want to cuddle up by the fire with their crush or roast marshmallows with their buds after a long night of dancing? Just make sure there is someone present who can handle the fire. We don't want any accidents to happen!

    Game Night

If you are not up for a big party, just have your main possy over and have some gaming fun! Eating chips and dip over an intense game of Mario Kart or Just Dance is the best way to go if you're looking to just chill out (and dance some more...just not in high heels this time!). It'll be your chance to impress your friends (or crush) with your gaming skills (what guy isn't impressed by a girl who can hold her own gaming?)! Turn it into a sleepover with sleeping bags in the living room and an awesome breakfast in the morning. This may be one of your last chances to spend quality time with your close high school friends, so make the most of it!

    Bowling Competition

Instead of holding a regular bowling night after prom, why not make it more interesting? Dates vs. dates or couples vs. couples...heat up the competition! To make it more fun, Seventeen recommends setting up rules like - you can only bowl backwards between your legs - bowl on one foot - or bowl blind folded! It's a great way to bond and act silly with your close friends, especially with the year coming to an end and everybody leaving for college.

  • Rissy Roo's Prom Dress Testimonial: Ashton Boyd

We recently received such a sweet e-mail from one of our customers that we just can't get over! Daphne Boyd, mother of Ashton, sent us such a detailed message of her experience at Rissy Roo's, and we are just so happy to hear that she got everything that she was looking for! We don't want to do much explaining of Daphne's note, as it definitely speaks for itself - read on below, and check out how gorgeous her daughter, Ashton, looked in her dress!

"I have so many wonderful things to say about your company. I'd like to begin with the first phone call I made to your company.  I had been looking all over California for a very specific La Femme evening gown. 18914 that number will forever be in my mind. I found you on the web and decided to call.  Frustrated with all the California neglect.  Your customer service was amazing.  Kind and patient and very knowledgable.  You had the dress.  I was so excited.  Then she told me it would be about 8 or 9 days to get the dress to Cali.  My heart sank that would be cutting it very close especially with alterations.  Then the young lady said the most amazing thing... She said well wait we have a warehouse in California and it can be to you in 4 days for $25.  I about fell off the couch.  Lets do it. I wish that I had found you Freshman year! We have one more year in high school and I can guarantee that I will be purchasing all her dresses next year from you!  And I have been telling all my Cali friends about how great Rissy Roos is. My daughter looked beautiful and she stood out and looked far different from all the same prom dresses that everybody wore. Thank you again."

  • Promposal from our Roo Customer Shelby!

One of our Rissy Roo's customers recently sent us pictures of her own daughter's promposal! Jessica, the mom of Shelby Thornton, saw that we've been posting cute promposal ideas to our Facebook wall and wanted to join in on the fun.

Listen up ladies, because Shelby was the one doing the prom proposal to her boyfriend, not the other way around! There's definitely nothing wrong with the girl taking the initiative and asking the guy to prom, and Shelby's idea was such a cute way of doing it. Thinking of a funny or cheesy promposal can help lighten the mood for something that can be a little scary. Check out Shelby's idea below for inspiration!

"My daughter Shelby Thornton (a high school senior in Texas) asked her boyfriend (a junior) to prom.  I noticed you post pics of cute ideas and thought this might make your list.  Thank you."

  • NBA Star Dwyane Wade Surprises Fan at her Prom!

Are you a big basketball fan? If so, this is definitely something you'll be amazed by (and maybe a little jealous of)! Professional basketball player Dwayne Wade, who plays for the Miami Heat, really showed how much he loves his fans by surprising one of them at their prom!

It all started when a high school senior that lives in Florida, Nicole Muxo, created a YouTube video of a prom proposal to Dwyane. Nicole started off the video saying that she's all ready for prom, except for one thing - having the perfect date, and proceeded to ask Dwayne to be that date. Watch her promposal here:

    http://youtu.be/t2egOWkTHm4

Believe it or not, her promposal didn't fall on deaf ears! Dwayne never officially responded to the video, but after being able to find some free time between his playoff games, the NBA star showed up at Nicole's prom to surprise her! Dwayne first surprised Nicole with a phone call, saying sorry that he couldn't make it to her prom and sending her happy wishes. But, a few minutes later, Dwayne walked into the La Jolla Ballroom in Coral Gables, where the Archbishop Coleman Carroll High School prom was being held, to surprise Nicole in person! Nicole was overwhelmed with amazement, and the two danced and took pictures together before Dwayne headed out for the night. Watch the video of Dwayne surprising the teen: Continue reading

  • Bella Thorn's Prom Dress: Sherri Hill 21168

Disney actress Bella Thorne recently shared photos with Seventeen Magazine of her all dressed up for prom with her friends! Bella wore a Sherri Hill dress to her 15th birthday party back in November, so you can only guess that she wore none other than Sherri Hill to her prom! The dress she chose was Sherri Hill style 21168, a beautiful jeweled high-low dress with spaghetti straps.

We already made the dress Bella wore our Dress of the Week back in February because we loved how beautiful it looked on Kendall Jenner, but we're giving it another honorary Dress of the Week for this week! Continue reading
