Many designers have added a ruffle to their designs as an accent while others have featured ruffles as the main event. If you want to add a little 80's inspo to your prom night consider one of these fun Ruffle Prom Dress styles.

The spring runway shows were filled with optimistic shades of yellow. Some have even referred to "Spongebob yellow" as the color of the season. Roaring 20's

What better way to celebrate Prom 2020 than by paying homage to a classic flapper style from the 1920s. Beaded fringe swings, sways, and follows all of your best moves on the dance floor. Become the life of the party in a short fringe dress, or showcase your timeless beauty in a floor-length fringe gown, and catch the attention of your secret admirer. Polka Dots

In the mid-1800s, polka dots found their way into the fashion industry, mainly appearing on accessories such as handkerchiefs, bow ties, and scarves. It wasn’t until the 1920’s that the trend truly began to play a featured role in fashion. In the 1920's we saw Miss America, Norma Smallwood, photographed in a polka dot swimsuit and Disney’s Minnie Mouse in her infamous red polka dot dress and matching bow. Polka dot dresses hit peak popularity in the 1950s and the spotty motif has maintained a special place in retro fashion with its playful, charming, and light-hearted allure. This year, polka dots are back in a big way, from being featured on the runways at New York Fashion Week to being a staple in the wardrobes of Hollywood Elite actresses, such as Alison Brie and Brittany Snow. For a classic and playful prom look consider a Polka Dot Prom Dress.

    Old Hollywood Glamour

Shine brighter than the stars with the glamorous styles of Old Hollywood. Today's fashion continues to be inspired by Hollywood's Golden Age. From Rita Hayworth's black strapless 'Put the Blame on Mame' gown to Marilyn Monroe's unforgettable 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend' pink dress, old Hollywood has been setting the standard for glamour.  See your name in lights when you walk the red carpet in a floor-length gown of satin, velvet, or dazzling sequins. Showcase your best features with a cowl neckline, open back, and bias-cut skirt. Find your own path to fame in an Old Hollywood Style Prom Dress.

    Floral Prints

Flower motifs may just be the most popular of the spring 2020 prints. The spring runways were filled with small and large florals. For prom 2020 we are seeing romantic floral prints on flowing chiffon dresses, delicate floral embroidery on tulle ball gowns, and gowns accented with three-dimensional floral appliques. Express your unique style at prom in a Floral Prom Dress.

    Jumpsuits

During the disco era of the '70s, jumpsuits were a nightlife staple of trendy nightspots such as Studio 54 and the Cotton Club. Many will recall Farrah Fawcett in her deep-V cut emerald green jumpsuit in Charlie's Angels. In recent years, jumpsuits have seen a spectacular resurgence, in both evening wear and street style. Kristen Stewart and Jennifer Lawrence are just two, of the many Hollywood starlets, that have embraced its renaissance. Now, in 2020, we're seeing the one-piece silhouette gaining massive popularity as a chic choice for fashion-conscious prom-goers. Jumpsuits can flatter all body types and come in a wide variety of styles and colors to choose from. The prom jumpsuit is just as formal and appropriate as a dress for the special event but can make a fashion statement like no other garment due to its glamorous yet edgy nature. Check out this selection of Prom Jumpsuits:

    Pleats

Believe it or not, the technique of pleating garments began in ancient Egypt and was used to decorate the tunics of its rulers. Pleats, which were made by hand, symbolized power and wealth. In 2020, pleats are popular for fashion purposes as well as their ability to provide freedom of movement to the wearer. So, lucky for you, you won’t need to be a ruler to rule Prom 2020! Pleated dresses are all the rage this prom season and there are numerous options available from top designers such as Sherri Hill and Alyce Paris. Will you rule prom in a Pleated Prom Dress?

    Two-Piece

Bralettes as tops have made their way into fashion for Spring 2020. In the world of prom fashion, this translates into trendsetting two-piece prom dresses. Cropped tops and long skirts for prom have become a lasting trend. This season you will see bralette style tops with both long fitted skirts, ball gowns skirts, and mermaid style skirts. Dare to bare just a little in a Two Piece Prom Dress.

    Feathers

  • Nikki Novak in Sherri Hill at the 2019 Golden Globes

Awards Season always has us dreaming of the Prom Season ahead. This year's Golden Globes especially had us thinking prom because of one particular actress' perfect red carpet look. If you can't guess, or didn't get to watch the 2019 Golden Globes, the actress we're talking about is Nikki Novak! The actress stunned us on the red carpet by wearing one of our favorite designers: Sherri Hill!

A post shared by Sherri Hill (@sherrihill) on

This is an extra special Sherri Hill dress, too, because it's one that you can wear to prom. She is wearing Sherri Hill style 52448, a brand new dress that's available for Prom 2019! The gown features delicate floral details that we're obsessing over. Nikki wore the Light Blue color, but this gown also comes in Coral, Light Green, and Yellow - all colors that remind us of the warmer spring months to come.

Since Sherri Hill 52448 is such a unique, stand-out look, we recommend keeping the accessories minimal, just like Nikki did on the Golden Globes red carpet. It can certainly be fun to wear a pair of stand-out heels, though, like Nikki's sparkly heels, since the overskirt is see-through! Grab a pair of heels similar to Nikki's with Jupiter by Touch Ups.

If you haven't heard the name Nikki Novak before, Nikki is known for movies The Holiday, The Bucket List, and Any Given Sunday. She is also a Fandango correspondent and film correspondent for The Today Show, Access, E! News, and Extra. Keep a look-out for her on more red carpets - you never know when you might catch her in another Sherri Hill dress!

  • Wear Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding Dress to Your Next Formal Event!

All eyes have been on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as the most publicized date on the 2018 calendar finally came: the 2018 Royal Wedding! The two love birds finally married on May 19, 2018, a Saturday, which went against tradition, as royal weddings are usually held on a weekday. That's no surprise, since there has been many aspects of Prince Harry and Meghan's engagement and marriage that has gone against tradition.

It was announced on the morning of the wedding that the Queen has conferred a Dukedom on Prince Henry of Wales. His titles will be Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel. As a result, Prince Harry is His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex, and Meghan has become Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex.

The marriage took place in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, with Prince Harry and Meghan becoming the sixteenth royal couple to celebrate their marriage at the castle since 1863.

Of course, the moment we were waiting for was to see Meghan's beautiful wedding dress! She looked like a true princess, and Duchess, in her totally classic and classy white wedding dress, especially with a prince by her side! We're pretty sure this means Disney is real...  Continue reading

  • Giuliana Rancic Rocked Sherri Hill at the 2018 Golden Globes

The 75th Golden Globe Awards was held on Sunday, January 7th in Beverly Hills, California. The vibe was much different than past award ceremonies. The 2018 Golden Globes, which honored film and American television of 2017, did much more than honoring celebrities. It was the first awards ceremony to take place after many Hollywood sexual abuse cases have come into the news as of late, and the awards ceremony made sure to take the time to address the issue.

Everyone dressed in black in solidarity with people who have been victims of sexual abuse. There was also talk about Time's Up, Hollywood's new initiative to get victims of sexual harassment in low-income jobs legal help. It also has a goal of pushing anti-harassment legislation.

The most talked-about moment was when Oprah Winfrey took the stage. She was on stage to accept the Cecil B DeMille Award for lifetime achievement. It was a special moment, as she was the first black woman to take home the award. In her acceptance speech, she honored the past, and urged all to be hopeful for the future. If you missed the moving speech, watch it below.

Oprah's speech was so powerful, and to see all of the celebrity women walk the red carpet in black added to the special meaning behind this year's Golden Globes. This year's ceremony was a show of power, not the usual fashion.

With that said, we saw one celebrity walking the Golden Globes red carpet in one of our favorite designers. Of course we got excited over it! Giuliana Rancic rocked a Sherri Hill dress! She wore Sherri Hill style 51735, in black a conscious choice to support the #MeToo movement and women empowerment.

The E! News host always has great style, so it was no surprise to see her rock a Sherri Hill gown. The top of the sparkling gown features a criss-cross neckline and keyhole. The bottom of the gown runs straight from her waist to the carpet. It was a classic silhouette, with just enough glamour for the perfect red carpet presence.

While this dress looks beautiful in black, and had a very important meaning behind the color for Giuliana, this dress also comes in many other colors. You can choose to rock it at prom in Rose Gold, Gold, Jade, Navy, Purple, Red, Royal, or Black like Giuliana.

  • Best and Worst Dressed at the 2017 American Music Awards

With the year coming to a close, another 2017 awards ceremony is now but memory. The 45th Annual American Music Awards took place on November 19, 2017 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. It was hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross.

With the 2017 AMAs being the last awards show of the year, the pressure was on for celebrities to make best dressed lists. Outfits had to be on-point and paired perfectly with accessories, hair, and makeup. With the pressure so high, celebs either end up succeeding with flying colors or totally missing the mark. See our picks for best and worst dressed below, and even how you can snag those best dressed styles yourself!

Best Dressed at the 2017 AMAs

    Tracee Ellis Ross

With Tracee Ellis Ross hosting the event, of course she is number one on our AMAs Best Dressed list. Our favorite look of hers for the night was the gorgeous burgundy sequined gown she wore on the red carpet.

Grab Tracee's AMAs style with Primavera 9713, a glamorous sequined gown that comes in burgundy just like her dress. This magnificent fitted gown is covered in a lively sequin print, from start to finish. Our favorite part of this dress has to be the mesmerizing illusion cutouts on the back of the dress. Click the link above to view it on our website!

    Corinne Foxx

Corrine Foxx is taking the fashion scene head-on this year! If you haven't heard this name yet, she is actor Jamie Foxx's daughter. Earlier this year, she walked the Sherri Hill runway to show off the designer's new Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Now, she's walking award show red carpets... right next to her big-time celebrity dad, of course.

Do you recognize the jumpsuit she's wearing? If so, that's because she's rocking another one of your favorite dress designers: Jovani! The halter jersey jumpsuit she's wearing is Jovani 50908. It's a stylish and sexy choice that still oozes with elegance for any event, whether the red carpet or the prom dance floor.

    Selena Gomez

Selena went for full-on rock star at the 2017 American Music Awards. We loved her leather jacket inspired dress, and her brand new blonde hair! The black stilettos and clutch and red lips were the perfect way to finish off her rocker-chic look.

While this is a totally original dress that's hard to duplicate, there are plenty of faux leather dresses you can choose from that are perfect for holiday parties, winter formals, or even prom.

Selena showed off her badass side on the stage, too, debuting her latest single, "Wolves," a collaboration with Marshmellow. Check it out below!

    Lea Michele

When does Lea Michele not look totally chic? Basically never. She chose a light pink gown that has us so ready for prom season! She kept her makeup and accessories simple to really let the sparkles on her dress stand out. Watch her twirl down the red carpet in her gown in the below video.

Get Lea's AMAs style with Faviana 10006, and off-the-shoulder dress that features a lace bodice and chiffon skirt. It's a soft and sultry look that's sure to have you twirling around the prom dance floor just like Lea down the AMAs red carpet!

    Faviana 10006

    Jenna Dewan Tatum

With Channing Tatum by you're side, we're pretty sure there's no way to look bad. Jenna's got a style all her own, though, and she looked so gorgeous at the 2017 AMAs! She wore a sparkly nude color dress and couldn't have looked sexier. She even said on her Instagram account that this dress is one of her favorites ever!

Shameless dress pic. Because it’s one of my favorites ever. Thank you @julienmacdonald ⭐️❤️

To get Jenna Dewan Tatum's look for prom, go with Jovani 58506. This dress makes for a sexy choice with its all-over sparkles, side cutouts, and open back. It's a look perfect for a black tie New Year's Eve event or prom!Jovani 58506

Worst Dressed at the 2017 AMAs

    Yara Shahidi

While we love all that sparkles, actress Yara Shahidi has a lot going on with her AMAs look. The combination of collared shirt, dressy shorts, trench coat, and knee-high socks with heels looks more like a totally funky day-out-with-the-girls outfit, rather than a red carpet outfit.

    Madeleine Petsch

Black dresses are perfect for any event, but there's a little too much going on with Madeleine Petsch's black dress. A black dress is all about classic elegance; keep it simple, rather than trying to fit every trend, like feathers, lace, illusion, deep v-neck, etc, all into one dress.

    Sabrina Carpenter

We love Girl Meets World star Sabrina Carpenter, and she usually has such great style! But, she may have gone a little overboard with taking a cue from the funky styles she wears on Girl Meets World with her AMAs looks. While it's always fun to add a touch of uniqueness to your looks, keep it within limits for semi-formal and formal events.

    Julia Michaels

We're not sure if Julia Michaels is trying to dress up as Lydia in her wedding dress from the Beetlejuice movie, a Christmas present, or a loofa Halloween costume! Either way, while bold red is a totally great color choice, the excessive layers of tulle are a little much.

    Rene Bargh

We love army green, but it may be misplaced at a formal event, especially when paired with a statement belt like on Rene Bargh's AMA dress.

Remember, whether on the best or worst dressed list, there are always style cues you can take and incorporate into your own outfits. So, even if there are certain elements of the worst dressed looks you loved, don't be afraid to incorporate them into your next outfit! After all, the most important thing in dressing up is choosing something you're comfortable and confident in.

  • Lauren Conrad's Cruella de Vil Halloween Costume is a Perfect Way to Spook Out Any LBD

With Halloween so close, if you haven't conjured up your perfect Halloween look yet, it's time to get your bones moving. Being the fashion obsessed gals that we are at RissyRoos.com, we're not about to settle for any store-bought Halloween costume. As we're sure all of our Roo Girls know, we're big proponents of accessorizing little black dresses to create a totally chic Halloween look. From a sexy vampire, to a fierce black cat, to a sassy witch, there are so many options to choose from when it comes to a LBD, or any black dress for that matter.

That's exactly why we're excited about Lauren Conrad's DIY Halloween costume this year! On Thursday, October 19th, she revealed her 2017 Halloween Costume. Guess what was at the forefront of it: a black dress! This year, she's dressing up as Cruella de Vil, which couldn't be a more sassy and evil, but super chic look for Halloween.

The costume is easy to put together. Here's everything you'll need:  Continue reading

  • Miss America 2018 Cara Mund Wins In JOVANI!

Another year has gone by, and a new Miss America has been crowned! Sunday, September 10, 2017 marked the Miss America 2018 pageant, held in our hometown of Atlantic City, NJ. The 91st Miss America crown was given to a first-time state winner. The history-making Miss America is Miss North Dakota, Cara Mund!

Not only is this the first time North Dakota has won the crown, but it's also the first time that a woman from her state has placed in the top five. Cara Mund did an amazing job, from being judged in categories like talent, evening wear, lifestyle, fitness, and their answer to an onstage question. During the talent portion of the pageant, Cara wowed the judges with a jazz dance performance to Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel." Our favorite part of Cara winning the Miss America crown, though, was what she was wearing when crowned. She won in a Jovani dress!

Cara represented North Dakota in a beautiful chic and sophisticated black velvet Jovani gown that featured a unique keyhole detail on both the front and back. It's style 27462, and is available for custom order.

  • Jenelle Evans in Sherri Hill for the 2017 VMAs

29This past Sunday, August 27th, so many celebrities walked the red carpet for the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, where they celebrated and honored music videos that were released between June 25, 2016 and June 23, 2017. Katy Perry hosted the event, and certainly made for a fun night.

Possibly the most anticipated moment of the evening was the premiere of Taylor Swift's music video for her new single, "Look What You Made Me Do." Earlier in the week, she had surprised fans when she deleted all of her images from her Instagram account, to be replaced by two videos of a snake. So, we knew something big was coming, and that something big was the release of her newest music video during the 2017 VMAs!

The video was much darker than Taylor's usual direction. The video was all about Taylor's reputation, displaying different versions of herself, including as a zombie! It was a direct jab at past issues with Kanye West and Katy Perry. So, it was certainly quite the statement for the video to be released during an awards ceremony that Katy Perry was hosting! If you haven't watched the video yet, check it out below.

Believe it or not, with Tay being the dedicated, creative artist that she is, Tay has already also released a lyric video version of her song. Check out that video, as well, below.

There were so many other memorable events during this year's VMAs, including P!nk's acceptance speech for the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. But, being Rissy Roo's, we're here to talk about the red carpet fashion, and there is one very important VMAs 2017 dress that we're here to share with you!

We know there were so many gorgeous looks on the VMAs red carpet, but there was one special look that really stuck out to us - a Sherri Hill dress! Reality TV star Jenelle Evans, known for MTV's shows "16 and Pregnant" and "Teen Mom 2," rocked a Sherri Hill dress on the 2017 VMAs red carpet, and it looked so gorgeous on her. Check out a picture of her in the dress below!
The dress that Jenelle wore was Sherri Hill 50948, a beautiful two-piece gown that features a v-neck top with an open square back and a full, floor-length a-line skirt. The top is embellished Mwith a vibrant bouquet of floral embroidery that makes for a stand-out look against the black skirt. It's difficult to tell in Jennelle's picture, but the skirt features a hide side slit. Check out the dress on our website to see the slit!
