  • Beginner Friendly Hacks For Applying Eyeshadow Perfectly

If you love rocking makeup, getting that perfect eye makeup look is super important, whether you're going shopping or having a night out on the town. But, if you're not a makeup connoisseur, applying eyeshadow perfectly can be tricky. So, to make it a little easier, we've compiled a few eyeshadow applying guides that we're obsessing over.

The first comes from Good Housekeeping Magazine. They recently created a Complete Guide to Where to Put Your Eye Makeup, which includes a detailed photo of where eyeshadow should be placed in various areas around your eye, and instructions for each section. The main areas they break down are:

    • Browbone/highlight: Add a matte or shimmery pale eyeshadow here to make your eyes pop.
    • Lid: This is typically where your main shade goes.
    • Crease: Applying a darker eyeshadow here adds dimension.
    • Outer V: The outermost corner of your eye where deeper shades are usually applied.
    • Upper Lashline: Where your eyelashes begin on your upper lid. You can define your eye in various ways here.
    • Waterline: The inner rim of the eye, usually where either darker eyeliner is applied for a smokey look or pale nude eyeliner is applied to make the eyes look wider.
    • Lower Lashline: Just below the waterline, where liner and shadow is also applied to define the eyes.
    • Tear Duct: The inner corner of your eye, where usually pale or shimmery shadow is added to open up the eye.

While there's still plenty of time to put your Halloween costume together (hint, hint: it is time to start looking for that Homecoming dress, though!), we recently stumbled upon a Halloween makeup tutorial video by Promise Tamang, known as dope2111 on YouTube, that we're loving.

  • Every Day Summer Makeup in Under 10 Minutes

It's summer time and that means that because of that gorgeous tan you got (which you acquired while wearing sunscreen, of course), you can take it easy on the makeup and still get that natural sunkissed look you love. For the next few months, those perfect rosy red cheeks you always try to mimic with makeup is au naturale! That means less time prepping and putting together that perfect look, and more time doing the things you love.

But, just because you can take it easy on the makeup (of course, there is never anything wrong forgoing makeup altogether), doesn't mean you won't want to do some basic maintenance. YouTube star Carli Bybel (she calls her channel The Beauty Bybel!) recently put together a quick and easy summer makeup tutorial that we're loving. The goal was to put together an every day summer makeup look in under 10 minutes, and she did exactly that - she timed it to be about 9 minutes and 45 seconds, to be exact. Check out the video below!

Not only is this look quick and easy, but it's also affordable! As she mentioned in her video, all of the products she used can be purchased as your local drug store, and she listed all of the products mentioned (in order) on her blog.

Whether going shopping for the day or having a night out with your BFFs, this is a perfect look for any time of day or event. Like Carli mentioned, it's a lightweight, pretty makeup look, which is exactly what you want for the summertime. And, even though Carli specifically made this video for a summertime makeup idea, it's a classic look that uses more natural colors that can be worn during any season. So, after the summer is over, you may want to consider testing it out for your homecoming dance!

  • Drugstore Prom Makeup Tutorial

So, you have your prom dress, shoes, and accessories. All that's left is to decide on your hair and makeup. And, those decisions can be just as big as the dress decision! You'll want to choose a hair style that compliments your dress, and the makeup is all about what you're comfortable with. You can go to a makeup artist and get it done professionally, or do it all yourself. Since the professionals have you covered, today's post is all about creating that perfect prom makeup look yourself!

Youtuber Melissa Allen recently posted a drug store prom makeup tutorial, and we're loving her makeup picks. She called it a drugstore haul because all of the makeup that chose chose can be found at your local drug store, and she tried to keep all of her choices under $10. So, if you're looking for a last minute makeup look, or need a makeup look on a budget, Melissa's video is a great one to take pointers from. Check it out below!

She listed all of the products that she used in her video in the information section of her youtube video, but here it is listed out to make it a little easier:  Continue reading

  • First Date Makeup Mistakes According To Men

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, it's time to not only start looking for your perfect V-Day dress, but to begin thinking of the rest of your outfit, too, from accessories to makeup. Valentine's Day can be difficult to plan outfits for, as it's a day where you really want to look your best. It can be an especially sensitive day in deciding what to wear if you're single looking to go out with your BFFs for a single night out, or if you're in a new relationship where you're still feeling things out.

While it can be tempting to go all-out with a sexy outfit and lots of makeup, POPSUGAR surveyed a group of men about first-date makeup "don'ts" for the big day, and their responses were surprising! POPSUGAR explained, "We spend so much time looking at celebrities and trying to emulate their looks, from intense contouring to overdrawing our lips. It's lovely to admire other women and try new things with our hair and makeup looks, but don't take their aesthetic to heart." Watch what the men have to say in the video below and you'll see why!

Pretty surprising, right? In a totally good way, of course! The three takeaways when it comes to getting that perfect more natural Valentine's Day first date makeup look that POPSUGAR discussed in the video are:

    • Avoid bold lipstick. All those shades gals usually love turn out to not be such big hits for guys! But, don't be afraid to be yourself, either - if you feel the most comfortable in bold lipstick, that's okay, too.
    • Use a light hand with your foundation. The men in the video explained that they are fans of the more natural look, so going too heavy on foundation can go against this.
    • Don't go overboard on eye makeup. So, you may want to tone down that smokey eye makeup look that's become so popular over the years.

However you decide to dress and do your makeup for Valentine's Day, just remember to choose the look you're most comfortable in, as the most important thing is to be comfortable and confident. The rest will fall into place!

  • DIY Black Cat Makeup Tutorial for Halloween!

Remember on Monday how we posted about a chic black cat Halloween look, matching chick nail art, a little black dress, cat ears, cat eye makeup, and cat eye glasses all together? Well, we have more information to help you finish off that black cat look! Seventeen Magazine recently posted a step-by-step video on how to create that perfect black cat makeup look...from the classic cat eyes to a cute black nose and even whiskers! Check out the black cat makeup tutorial here:

    http://youtu.be/9KQxaANch48

Such a cute look! Lupe, known as naturallybellexo on YouTube (who works with Seventeen), decided to create her black cat look with a black romper, rather than a little black dress, like we mentioned earlier this week. Both styles work so well for a black cat look, and both are so easy to take from Halloween to any other night out or event you go to.

If you want to rock a romper like Lupe, we love Shail K style 3464. This hand beaded, sparkling one piece will make you look so sexy, and the silver accenting throughout the romper reminds us of stripes on a cat! We especially love the sparkles on this romper - they're a perfect way to stand out in the crowd on nights like Halloween, a Holiday party, or New Year's Eve. The romper also features a sweetheart neckline, defined waist, and unique open back design. If it's a cold night out (like Halloween or the Holidays usually are), don't be afraid to pair this look with black tights - rompers look great with tights and is perfectly on-trend.

A black cat is a classic (and SO Roo Girl!) choice for Halloween, so you definitely can't go wrong with this look. And, you can always find unique ways to add your own personal style to the look by adding jewelry.... and choosing between a romper vs. a LBD, of course! Are you planning on being a black cat? Do you have any tips, tricks, or ideas on how to finish off the look? Leave a comment below!

  • 2014 Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Beauty Trends!

The beauty trends for Haute Couture Fashion week are anything but average. In fact, the typical adjectives used to capture the art displayed by various designers and artists include wild, eclectic, and whimsical. However non-realistic and daring these hair and makeup looks may be, they always seem to have an underlying layer of prettiness drawing us to them and tempting us to give them a try on our own mini runways in everyday life. Here are a few of the 2014 Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week beauty trends we enjoyed the most and would be willing to try for Fall and Homecoming 2014.

    Chanel Haute Couture 2014

2014 Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Beauty Trends-Chanel Haute CoutureEach model rocked a sequin cap with a feathered, extremely piece-y up-do. We love this rocker goes glam inspired look complete with metallic winged eyeliner. The silver and gold glow on the eyes reminds of Winter and the holidays!

    Atelier Versace Haute Couture 2014

Atelier Versace Haute Couture 2014-Paris Haute Couture Beauty TrendsMove over barely there eye makeup. It looks like Atelier Versace went all out with an all over eye color and gave new meaning to winged eyes. Instead of a winged tip, these models had fully winged eyelids in teal for a sultry dramatic effect, which was balanced with nude lips and high slick backed top knots! This look has 70's disco party all over it and we are ready to put on a jumper and dance.

On Aura Tout Vu Haute Couture 2014

On Aura Tout Vu Haute Couture- 2014 Paris Haute Couture Beauty TrendsThe models for this show walked in an ethereal water wonderland with violet shadowed, sunken eyes, also lined in metallic silvers giving an icy winter presence. The tight pin curls on the models have a wet look, which ties in with the entire Haute Couture collection being inspired by water. We can certainly get "aboard" with this look for the Fall and Winter months ahead.

Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2014

2014 Paris Haute Couture Beauty Trends-Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2014We thought adhesive eyelashes were a miracle, but we didn't know what was coming next. Makeup artists for the Christian Dior Haute Couture show kept the trending curve going with metallic eyes, only with the exception of using silver adhesive liners instead. We would give these "Velvet Eyes" adhesive liners a go for their perfect shapes, bold colors, and long wear appeal.

After reviewing our favorite beauty trends of 2014's Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, we feel less disappointed knowing Summer will eventually come to an end. Knowing we will have exciting makeup, hair, and fashion trends to look forward to certainly puts our minds at ease!

Which of the above trends did you like or dislike? Are there any you would be willing to try for the 2014 Fall and Homecoming season?
