  • What Is Homecoming?

Homecoming is an annual tradition that involves the celebration of welcoming back former students or graduates otherwise known as alumni of an educational institution. There are usually many activities that are prepared such as sports and cultural programs, as opposed to only one. A parade is also often included and the town or city is witness to it as this activity is held in the streets. If by any chance you should be confused between a Homecoming and a prom, just remember that the former is held during the fall while the latter happens in spring. While Homecoming’s occur countrywide, those in the south are typically the more lavish and over the top Homecoming’s, as it is generally revered as a more significant event than it is in the Northern States.
  • Top Trends for Homecoming 2017

With summer on its way out and fall 2017 almost here, it's time to update that wardrobe with new looks to take you into the cooler months. Of course, our favorite fall dress-up day is Homecoming, and there are six trends that we are obsessing over for Homecoming 2017. Check them out below for some great ideas to ensure you're totally on-trend for your back to school homecoming dance.

    Trend #1: Lace Dresses

    Homecoming 2017 Trend Lace Dresses

The most in-demand Homecoming 2017 styles starts with a trend that's been a staple over a few years now, for both Homecoming and Prom. That trend is lace! A dress embellished with lace details makes for such a timeless romantic look, and can easily be dressed up or down.

The dress shown in the picture above is Alyce 2646. This cocktail dress not only features lace, but also another Homecoming 2017 top trend, velvet. This romantic two-piece party dress features a velvet halter top with a high neckline, sleek side cut outs, and an open lower back. The short A-line skirt features not only lace, but a beautifully beaded waistband, opaque underlay, and a scalloped hem.

    Trend #2: Green Dresses

    Homecoming 2017 Trend Green Dresses

Still trying to figure out what color to rock for Homecoming? Green is the color of choice for fall 2017! The reason that green is such a popular color this year is because Pantone named "Greenery" as the 2017 Pantone Color of the Year! Whether you rock a bright green color like the Color of the Year, or a darker hue, you'll be totally on-point with a green dress this fall.

The dresses shown above are: Sherri Hill 51289 and JVN by Jovani JVN42635. Both of these dresses are perfect for showing off your figure. Sherri Hill 51289 is a lively cocktail dress that's covered in a wild sequin pattern. Jovani JVN42635 is a lovely lace pattern with botanical hints of flowers and leaves throughout the dress, all placed over a nude lining.  Continue reading

  • Rissy Roo's at the JCC of Atlantic County Sip & Shop in Margate NJ

All of our local Roo Girls know we love to be a part of our southern New Jersey community. The latest in community fun came last week, on Wednesday, July 12th, when Rissy Roo's attended as the Fashion Sponsor at the JCC of Atlantic County's Sip & Shop Ladies' Night Out Shopping & Wine Tasting Event.

Rissy Roo's at the JCC Sip & Shop Event

The special one-night Sip & Shop event was for a great cause, to help JCC facilitate sensory play in their early childhood education classrooms. All proceeds from the 2017 Sip & Shop Ladies Night Out went to support the effort to enhance the sensory centers in each of JCC's preschool classrooms. The purpose of the sensory centers is for children to learn important skills, including math, science, physical development, and social and emotional skills.

    JCC of Atlantic County

Over $4,800 was raised for the early childhood education center classrooms, and it was such a fun community event that brought together both local vendors and national vendors, who traveled in for the special event.

Other than Rissy Roo's attending as the Fashion Sponsor, Salon Kink was also a sponsor of the event. They styled the hair on all of our Roo Girl models at the event, and even did the makeup for our Roo Girl Juli!

Thirty six vendors were present in total, including Lululemon Athletica, Aearance Dermatology, Arbonne, BathFitter, Bocca, Brace Urcelf, Cutco, Embellish, Hope Jewel, India Hicks, Le Fashion Cottage, Lularoe, Lusciously Scented, Marilyn Chackman, Mary Kay, Messed & Distressed, Monat, NuSkin, Paper Chase, Pendant of Light, Perfectly Posh, Premier Designs Jewelers, Psychic Answers, Pure Romance, RetroChic Beauty, Sabai Soap, Stella & Dot, Sugar on Topp, LLC, Tara Bella, Traveling Jewels, Usborne Books and More, Wildtree, Younique, and 3 Girls Gifts. • Homecoming Dress Testimonial: Kiersten Kiddy

The Homecoming 2016 Season is here, and some of our Roo Girls have already attended their dances, and shared their pictures with us. The latest homecoming photos were shared by Kiersten Kiddy's mom, Toni-Wes Kiddy. While most people think of high school or college when it comes to attending homecoming, Kiersten was actually attending her middle school homecoming. So, get ready for a cuteness overload with her pictures.

Kiersten was all set to attend her middle school homecoming back in August. All she needed was a dress. Kiersten's mom, Toni, called up Rissy Roo's, loving a Lexi by Mon Cheri dress that Kiersten needed in a Size 12. While we didn't have the dress in a Size 12, we did have it in a Size 16, and assured Toni that it can be altered to fit Kiersten. Kiersten and Toni purchased the dress, had it altered, and the rest is history. Needless to say, Kiersten looked beautiful in it for her football homecoming! Check out the photos Kiersten's mom sent below, as well as her homecoming testimonial.

    Lexi by Mon Cheri

Before it was time for Kiersten to attend her junior high homecoming, Toni initially sent us pictures of Kiersten trying on the dress. Toni said:

"We talked on the phone on August 31st & whoever I talked to was so helpful & nice (I was very worried about such a big alteration). It was a Sz 16 & has been altered down to about a Sz 12. We absolutely love it. But can't wait to see my daughter in it with her hair & makeup. Thank you again..."

After Kiersten attended her football homecoming, Toni followed-up with pictures of Kiersten on the homecoming field all dressed up. Toni said:

"Here are much better pics of Kiersten in her beautiful dress! Remember it was a Sz 16 taken in to about a Sz 10/12... This was for Selmer Middle School Football Homecoming. And thank you so much!!"

    Middle School Football Homecoming

How cute does Kiersten look with her homecoming date? We're just a little obsessed! With Kiersten's obvious fashion sense, we can't believe she's only in middle school. We can't wait to see what she'll be rocking for homecoming and prom in the many years to come in high school!

  • Winona Forever: A Fashion Flashback To The Style Icon

Ninety's fashion has made a huge comeback this year, seeing celebs like Kendall and Kylie Jenner and Gigi Hadid rocking those ever famous 90s style chokers and goth inspired looks. We certainly can't complain, especially since the 1990s seem to be making a comeback in a huge way well beyond fashion. Just yesterday, sequels to 1990s popular movies The Blair Witch Project and Trainspotting were announced, and one of our all-time favorite actresses who we've been waiting patiently to take over the spotlight once again has done just that: Winona Ryder! The popular 1990s actress who was famous for Tim Burton movies like Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice, as well as Girl, Interrupted, is finally back in the limelight in a big way in Netflix's newest sci-fi series Stranger Things.

With the comeback of both Winona and 90s fashion, we wanted to give a fashion flashback to some of the formal outfits that made Winona that 1990s fashion icon she's become known for. After all, as Vice noted in their article "The Timeless Appeal of Winona Ryder, Hollywood's Eternal Outsider," Winona was "the cult face of the 90s." See four of our favorite outfits below, and of course how you can take a cue from them for a perfect fall Homecoming look.

Winona wore that classic goth look in a totally elegant way, wearing a black v-neck dress, a worn-in leather jacket, black hair, and dark red lips. Of course, you can never go wrong with Johnny Depp on your shoulder! In this picture, Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp were at the NATO/ShowWest Convention in Las Vegas, NV in February of 1990.  Continue reading
