  • Oscar Worthy Dresses for Prom 2014

The 2014 Oscars is tonight and we cannot be more excited here at Rissy Roo's! The end of the 2014 Awards Season may be upon us, but this is the biggest night of all Red Carpet nights, and we can't wait to see all the gorgeous dresses that will be worn by the stars. Like we mentioned earlier this week in our "Ireland Baldwin in Mac Duggal" post, this is the 86th Academy Awards, and this year it's being hosted by Ellen DeGeneres. The Oscars begins at 7:00 EST on ABC, and you can watch the Oscars Red Carpet live coverage starting at 5:25pm from Entertainment Tonight.

With Prom Season just around the corner, we thought this was the perfect time to show some Prom love for the Oscars by picking out our favorite Oscar Worthy Dresses. If you're looking for a prom dress that will have you feeling as glamorous as celebrities at your big night, these are definitely the dresses that will do it! For more ideas than just the 3 dresses listed below, visit the "Style Spotlight: Oscar Worthy Dresses" photo album on our Facebook page.

    Terani p3121

For a modern day Old Hollywood look, we're all about Ternai style P3121. It's a form fitting sweetheart mermaid gown with delicate crystal embellishments. It's such a classic (and classy) look, but so glam at the same time!

    Jovani 7821

To make sure you stand out from the crowd, choosing a bold color is always a go-to choice. Jovani style 7821 is perfect to get that bold color in a totally classy Oscar-worthy way. It's a sexy strapless chiffon gown with a sweetheart neckline that features a ruched bodice with an intricate design. We especially love how flowy the skirt is - perfect for strutting down the red carpet...or onto the prom dance floor...in beautiful grace!

    Mac Duggal 81719r-ivory-black-f 400x560

To glam it up in style and sophistication, Mac Duggal style 81719R is your answer. This glamorous mermaid prom gown has a lacy underlay that's covered by an intricate beaded applique. The sparkle beading begins at the crystal and sequin sweetheart neckline to give the bodice a more glamorous effect. The embellishments then sweep down the form-fitting silhouette into a stunning tulle mermaid skirt.

The live Oscars red carpet event premieres Sunday, March 2nd on CBS, so make sure to tune in. Ireland Baldwin will be the Oscar's Fashion Correspondent for TVGN Live and ET. We can't wait to see what dress she'll be wearing at the big awards event! And, with this being the end of the Awards Season, all of the celebrities will definitely be rocking their best looks on the Oscars Red Carpet, so get ready for the best of the best in formal fashion! • Trend Alert! Embellished Sneakers for Spring and...Prom?

There is a fabulous foot trend that has everyone talking! From the runways to the streets, designers and celebs are opting for some fancy footwork...and they're not high heals. They're rocking embellished sneakers! With Spring 2014 just around the corner, it's the perfect time to try new trends out, and ditching your typical cross trainers to add instant glam to any outfit is certainly a great way to start! Designers like Christian Dior and Chanel flaunted their pumped up kicks adorned with sequins, pearls, and other embellishments on the runways of fashion week, and the runway looks are already hitting the streets. We are loving this trend and can't wait to see how it continues to grow!

Dior Couture Sneakers Dior Couture Sneakers

The designers at Christian Dior had models in athletic mesh shoes adorned with multicolored sequins. Chanel also took a bold fashion choice by dressing models in chunky sneakers embellished with tweed, shiny leather, and sheer laces giving the shoes an ultra feminine look.

    Chanel Sneakers Chanel Sneakers

We are loving these designs and think this fun footwear trend will not only be popular on the streets, but will carry into prom. Many prom dress designers are photographing models wearing high-tops embellished with crystals, interesting textures, and zippers. Even though the Chanel version can cost up to $4,000, you can still get the look with other inexpensive designers and can even make a pair yourself with some time and creativity!

Of course, if you love high heels, it doesn't mean you have to lose your pumps to rock sneakers at prom. Wear your heels to the dance, but bring the sneakers as your go-to comfy option once your feet start to get tired. Or, keep the heels on all night and rock the sparkly shoes for after-prom!

  • Promposals for Him: What Type of Promposal Girl are You?

With prom on the way, we are all super busy trying to find the prom dress and accessories of our dreams to ensure our night is perfect! Not to mention the organizing of plans and parties, we are exploring with hairstyles and makeup trends to figure out what kind of prom look we want. With all the shopping and searching and planning, we may have overlooked one minor detail...what about a date? If you haven't been asked yet, don't fret as there is still plenty of time for your dream guy to ask you. However, it's totally okay to take matters into your own hands and ask your crush or friend first! There are countless ways to go about asking someone to prom, so to get your creative juices flowing, below are two ways to go around 'promposals for him' - a more simple way, as well as a bolder approach. What kind of promposal girl would you be?

    Simple Promposal Approach

Whether coming from the guy or the girl, prom proposals are all about exploring your creative side and putting some extra thought into a clever way to ask your potential date. With that said, it doesn't mean that it has to be done in an over-the-top way. For a simple promposal idea, try incorporating something you know the other person likes or is interested in to show how much you care. We love this cute idea of "winging" the promposal with some chicken wings! First of all, what guy doesn't like wings?? And, secondly, it's a cute way to remind the person that you're asking that you are doing something sincere that you've never done before, and will hopefully be a reminder for him to be sincere with a response in return!

    Bold Promposal Approach

If you're a "go big or go home" type of girl, you may want to do something a little more bold for your promposal. Whether you just want a cute way to ask your boyfriend to prom, or you're on a mission to prove how much this your potential date MUST go to prom with you, or it just seems like something fun to do, a bold promposal can seem scary, but also very rewarding! Bolder, bigger ideas can also be fun ways to have friends aid you in the process! With all of the snow that's been coming down this weekend, we thought the below idea of carving our "PROM?" in the snow was such a cute idea! This one's bold in the sense that it's BIG, but it's super fun, which helps to take any scariness out of the idea.

    Snowy Promposal Idea

Whatever promposal idea or approach you decide to take, and whatever the outcome ends up being, just remember to have fun! Just like Prom Night, your promosal will be one that you'll remember forever, so make it special and keep it light-hearted. And, if you have any ideas of your own to share, leave us a comment below!

  • Kylie Erica Mar at the Critics Choice Awards in Mac Duggal

Just a couple of weeks ago we wrote about how stunned we were to see Nia Long at the Critics' Choice Awards in Jovani 77542. Well, she wasn't the only celebrity at the 2014 Critics' Choice Awards wearing one of our favorite dresses designers. Kylie Erica Mar was at the awards show wearing another one of our designers: Mac Duggal!

Kylie Erica Mar Critics Choice Awards Mac Duggal 82019

Kylie wore Mac Duggal style 82019, a stunning gown that's designed to deliver that WOW factor, whether worn on the red carpet or to prom! Sexy illusion cutouts accent the waist with beautiful silver beading and sequins. The jersey prom gown features a plunging neckline and sexy open back, trimmed with more sophisticated beading along the sides. The full skirt carefully fits your body to give you ease of movement and an exciting night.

Kylie wore the dress so perfectly! We loved her choice to keep her hair down and parted to the side - it accented the gown nicely while still showing off the sexy neckline and open back. Her dark cat eyes were a perfect accent to the sleek black lines of the skirt. Keeping her accessories simple with one silver bangle and a silver clutch was also a great choice, allowing the dress to speak for itself.

If you haven't caught Kylie on TV yet, she is the reporter for Made in Hollywood, where she interviews many of Hollywood's biggest starts, including Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford, and many, many more. If there's anyone who knows how to dress like a star on the red carpet, it's definitely her! So, if you want to feel like a celeb at your prom this year, just take a cue from Kylie and this Mac Duggal dress. Do you love her look? Leave us a comment and let us know!

  • Three Big Trends in Prom Dresses 2014

Prom is the first big formal event in the lives of many high school girls, so getting dressed up is

    rissy roo 1

a big deal. Having a dress that both suits your personality and stands out in the crowd is usually the goal when choosing a color and style. Like any type of fashion, popular types of prom dresses te

nd to come and go, and 2014 is definitely an interesting year for trends. If you want to star

    Lots and Lots of Floral

t getting ideas for the dress you're going to wear for the big night, here are a few of the themes you can expect to see in stores.

Floral patterns are classic that often get re-created with modern twists, and floral-patterned dresses are definitely something you can expect to see a lot of this year. Whether it's a subtle pattern along the bodice or a top-to-bottom design, it's an interesting way to break up a dress's solid color without using sequins or rhinestones. The great thing about this trend is that floral patterns can take on a vintage or modern aesthetic, so no matter what you typically wear, you can find a way to rock it. This picture has a more muted color scheme, but brightly-colored floral patterns will definitely be seen on the market.

    Pastels

Though any color dress can be made to look chic on the right person with the right accessories, there seem to be certain color palettes that get popular on a yearly basis. This year, pastels are a big hit – blush pinks, sky blues, baby yellows, and lavender, for example, seem to be the choice of many designers. Pastel-colored dresses make for a delicate, feminine aesthetic that is easily complemented by light jewelry and natural hair. Wearing one of these shades is an easy way to look effortlessly elegant on the biggest night of the year.

    Short Dresses

rissy roo 3Traditionally, girls always opt for floor-length gowns for prom night. When looking at lines of prom dresses for 2014, though, it seems that short styles are just as popular as long cuts. Shorter dresses are perfect for girls who want to look cute and flirty or even retro, and as an added bonus, you get to show off your shoes! No more hiding your kicks behind the drape of a gown. Some girls prefer these dresses because they're easier to dance in, and others just like to show off their legs. Don't have any hang-ups about whether or not a short dress is formal enough; you can jazz up a dress of any length with the right jewelry.

So, what do you think? Are you going to wear any of these trends to prom this year?
