  • Hot Summer 2014 Quinceanera Trends!

Is your 15th birthday rapidly approaching? Thinking of celebrating your Quinceanera soon? Summer is such an exciting time for you and your community to embrace this remarkable pastime, which you will cherish forever! Even though this tradition is held in many Latin, Central, and South American countries differently, the concept and value are still the same. It is important for families to recognize a young lady's presentation into society as a woman. The word "Quinceanera" actually refers to the young girl (15-year old) being celebrated and the ritual of a party and mass where this young girl presents herself to God and the community, honoring both herself and her religion. The Quineanera is a timeless tradition and should be carried out through generations of beautiful, talented young women!

Quinceanera With Her CourtOf course, much planning goes into this special party, and we cannot forget the best part...the DRESS! Girls put much thought and effort into picking the perfect dresses for themselves and their court to match their theme and personality. Of course, trends are always changing, but traditional is always in! Many girls go with a standard princess-like, extra full, ball gown style dress. This season there are some newer colors and patterns, like animal print, but the most popular dresses are still the traditional ones. The trendiest colors for Summer 2014 Quinceanera's are pink, blue, white, and some pastel shades, however blue seems to take the cake! We pick Vizcaya by Mori Lee style 88001 in Deep Aqua for the ruffled organza skirt and beaded corset bodice!

For something more sophisticated and without so much ruffle, we adore Vizcaya by Mori Lee 88066 in either white, champagne, or light blue. The bow accent is very glamorous and the jeweled bodice is breathtaking!

No Quinceanera would be complete without shoes, and for some, several pairs! In fact, many ceremonies have a "changing of the shoes" where the girl's father will take off the honorary girl's low heels, and replace them with a high heel, as a sign off stepping into womanhood. Many Quince's will have three pairs of shoes including flats to dance in, or to be comfortable towards the end of the celebration. The trend for Summer 2014 in this category is pretty spread out including pink heels, metallic platforms, glittery sandals, and even strappy, colorful heels with tassels of favorite soccer teams! The options are limitless, so it's a good thing some get to choose more than one pair! We like the Jilly by Night Moves Metallic Heels, and the Gail by Sweetie's Strappy Sandal!

Once the party outfit is put together, it's time to think about hair! Most girls like to wear a tiara or crown, but some go without it. As far as Quince hairstyles, the traditional way is to wear a simple, age appropriate up-do or hair flowing and pinned half up. Nothing over the top to take away from the dress or a girl's natural beauty, but something elegant and off the eyes and face. Many girls like to accent their hair with flowers or crystal jewels, or match their hair with their damas (fellow girl court members).

Getting everything together for this special day can take many months of planning and organizing so don't forget to start early! Having the perfect look is a major part, and we are always here to help! Stay tuned for more Quinceanera trends and updates!

The designers at Christian Dior had models in athletic mesh shoes adorned with multicolored sequins. Chanel also took a bold fashion choice by dressing models in chunky sneakers embellished with tweed, shiny leather, and sheer laces giving the shoes an ultra feminine look.

We are loving these designs and think this fun footwear trend will not only be popular on the streets, but will carry into prom. Many prom dress designers are photographing models wearing high-tops embellished with crystals, interesting textures, and zippers. Even though the Chanel version can cost up to $4,000, you can still get the look with other inexpensive designers and can even make a pair yourself with some time and creativity!

Of course, if you love high heels, it doesn't mean you have to lose your pumps to rock sneakers at prom. Wear your heels to the dance, but bring the sneakers as your go-to comfy option once your feet start to get tired. Or, keep the heels on all night and rock the sparkly shoes for after-prom!

So, we're going to show you how we get ready for our special events in four easy steps! Read on for easy steps to get ready for a winter inspired dance or formal event.

Step 1: Pick which dress length you would feel most comfortable in. Since you're going to a formal event, you'll be walking, sitting and probably dancing. Therefore, you want to choose a dress that doesn't keep you from the fun! And, of course, one that you love!

  • The Miss America "Show Us Your Shoes" Parade is Back!

Yes, you read correctly! As New Jersey-ians ourselves (and Southern New Jersey-ians, at that!), we are so happy to be announcing that Miss America is back in Atlantic City, NJ this year! And, with that comes one of the most fun events of the pageant: the "Show Us Your Shoes" Parade on the Atlantic City Boardwalk! The parade will be on the boardwalk this Saturday, and the procession starts at 5pm.

Luckily, we don't have to wait until Saturday to get a sneak peak of all the pretty shoes that the Miss America contestants designed themselves. The Star-Ledger got the inside scoop on the parade, and they even have a sneak peak video, all on NJ.com.

The heels that everyone at Rissy Roo's is dying to see? Miss New Jersey's, of course! Those are the beautifully decorated and themed shoes you're looking at in the above picture.

"Miss New Jersey, Cara McCollum, says she's going with a combined "washed ashore" and "Stronger Than the Storm" theme. Her peep-toe pumps, encrusted with starfish, oyster pearls and seashells, shimmer with a sea foam green and ocean blue, like "Wizard of Oz" went to the Shore."

    -Amy Kuperinsky/The Star-Ledger

Cara could not have picked a more fitting theme for the return of the Miss America Pageant to the New Jersey beach. We can't wait to cheer her on at the parade and in the pageant!

We're most excited to see Miss Kansas' shoes, though. The Star-Ledger revealed that she made quite an unusual and thought-provoking choice to wear a pair of work boots for the parade because she's in the state's National Guard. Talk about a statement fashion choice! There's no photos of the shoes as of yet, but you can get a glimpse of them in The Star-Ledger's video.

This fun parade started all the way back in the 1970s, when on-lookers watching contestants rehearsing for the pageant would yell, "Show us your shoes," only to see that the girls were in slippers since they were rehearsing. Well, one year, the ladies decided to give the hecklers something to look at! Now, the Show Us Your Shoes parade has become an Atlantic City tradition that we are so happy to have back this year. If you're in the area or coming down to the Shore for one last Summer weekend, make sure to stop by the AC Boardwalk to get a glimpse of all the fun, funky, and super shiny shoes. And, of course, don't forget to tune into ABC on Sunday, September 15th at 9pm to see who will be crowned Miss America 2014!

  • Shoe Love - Advice on Formal Shoe Shopping

    Shoes Shoes Shoes Shoes!!!!

Every girl out there loves shoe shopping, and what's the problem with that?  Shoes are the perfect accessory, go with you everywhere, and make you feel confident and stylish! The perfect pair of shoes can really make an outfit incredible, so when shoe shopping you need to make a commitment to the shoes you buy.  Here are some tips on buying a pair of high heels for your formal event.

When buying shoes for a formal event, always take into consideration your dress.  If you have a fancy, elaborate dress, then you’ll want a plain pair of shoes so that your style isn’t too overwhelming.  A basic black, white, or silver pair of high heels with a touch of sparkle should do the trick.  For dresses that aren’t as fanciful, get creative with your shoe choice!

Lately, a popular style has been to pair colorful shoes with little black dresses.  Worn with a black dress, bright pink, or yellow pumps with matching accessories will add a fun pop to your outfit.  For a formal occasion like a wedding, Homecoming, or Prom you might want your shoes to match the color of your dress.  In that case, you can purchase a pair of white shoes and have them dyed.  If you don’t want to go through the trouble of getting your shoes dyed, then stick to the basics of shoe matching.  Never mix black with navy blue, go for a silver shoe if the color of your dress is hard to match, and only pick white shoes if you’re wearing a light-colored dress.

Considering the height of a pair of high heels can be a big factor too.  If you’re a heel veteran then you might not have to worry when picking out a 4” tall pair of heels.  For those not so accustomed to wearing high heels, aim for finding a pair that are a little bit closer to the ground.  You can still look just as cute in a pair of heels that are 2-3” tall.

  • Try on a Sparkly Dress!

Like the rest of the fashion world, you must have noticed how popular sequins have become this year!  Now's the time to try on a sparkly dress that fits your own style.  Match it with accessories that will make you shine all night, wherever you're headed!  This Jovani dress is covered in shimmering sequins and paired with matching dazzling accessories.
