The first day of October 2014 is finally here! That means that it's officially Homecoming Season! Not only that, but Halloween is just weeks away, so October is a month that's all about dressing up, and we certainly like any reason to dress up here at Rissy Roo's! Additionally, don't forget that October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a very important cause for women everywhere.

South Jones High School senior Mary Kate Smith is one busy girl. This Fall brings on her Homecoming Dance, where she's the reigning homecoming queen, dedication to her Mississippi school's soccer team, oh and one more thing... the new kicker for her school's varsity football squad!

Already a star on her school's soccer team, she's bringing her golden foot to a new team - she's the first girl to make the school's varsity football squad. Her response if someone tells her she plays like a girl? Here's what she told TODAY.com:

"I'm me, and I'm not trying to be anybody else. I'll take that as a compliment."

TODAY.com got the whole scoop on this talented girl who proudly wears two things on her head: a homecoming crown, and a football helmet. TODAY.com explained that her football coach, Corey Reynolds, said one of his assistants, Matt Smith, the strength and conditioning coach for Mary Kate's soccer team, suggested Mary Kate be the kicker that'd sought all summer long. Corey explained, "It just turned out to be a blue-eyed, homecoming-queen soccer player."

Corey said he was amazed at the way Mary Kate could kick a 40-yard field goal in practice, calling her "one of the most highly competitive athletes - male or female - I've ever seen."

Mary Kate said field-goal kicks are in theory easier than kicking a soccer goal because the ball is stationary in football, but "the pressure is 10 times worse [in football], with big guys running at you who outweigh you by 200 pounds."

Sounds pretty scary to us, that's for sure!

Of course, Mary Kate's parents are so proud of her! Her dad said, "Here, in the South, where traditional values are very traditional, we were a little concerned about how well she'd be accepted. We've been pleasantly surprised by the support that the community has shown her. We've got a renewed faith that things are equalized for her, and for girls like her." Mary Kate's got a lot to be looking forward to when she graduates from high school and moves onto college. She's planning on playing Division-I soccer next fall at the University of Souther Mississippi and considering a career as an orthodontist. The cool, crisp air is here, and it's time to take out those cute scarves, rock boots and leather jackets, get pumpkin spice lattes, and start putting your Halloween costume together. But, most importantly, it's time to get ready for your homecoming dance!

We love summer...but we're also huge fans of the fall months because of Homecoming, and because while it may be a littler cooler out, the fall is still perfect weather for dresses. So, we were happy to hear of some exciting news from Starbucks to help us get into the fall (and Homecoming) mood! Although autumn doesn't technically start until September 23rd, the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte may be coming sooner than you think! Nothing says fall like everything pumpkin, afterall!

The infamous drink (it even has it's very own Twitter handle!) isn't set to return until September 2nd, but a Starbucks representative recently hinted at an early release: "As in previous years, there may be an opportunity for customers to gain early access to this seasonal favorite."

That's not the only clue that Starbucks has revealed, though. The official Twitter account for the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte (@TheRealPSL) has been hinting that the drink will be back next week! Check out some of the hints Starbucks tweeted:

We can definitely second that "YAAAAAS" and will be following @TheRealPSL with eager anticipation! The Lob - Long Bob

So many celebs have drastically changed their hair for summer of 2014. One of the biggest trends of the year was the infamous long bob. This intermediate cut is not too short but not too lengthy.  The on trend term for the Long Bob is The Lob.  The long bob has a wide range of variations from sexy waves to groovy seventies inspired bangs.  Even Beyonce went from her luscious long locks to this sassy short cut. Everyone is jumping on this hairstyle and can't get enough of it. Who said short hair wasn't sexy? This is great for someone who wants to try something new but not totally extreme.  Sienna Miller and Jennifer Aniston are just two of the many A-List celebs that have opted for the the long bob hairstyle.

Ombre Highlights

For the past couple of years, ombre highlights have been getting so popular...everybody tried some kind of form of ombre...even ombre dresses! When it comes to your hair, whether it's a subtle one shade lighter ombre or a full on platinum blonde ombre...there's endless possibilities on how extreme you can go. Adding color like pinks and reds to add some edginess to your style is a great way to more drastically change your appearance.  Check out how Ciara and Rachel Bilson rock the ombre hairstyle below.

Shaved Side Hairstyle

Another trend celebs all over this year have been rocking is the shaved side hairstyle. You've seen it on pop stars like Miley Cyrus...Rihanna...and Cassie. Not many people would go for this look because of the drastic side buzz cut and the maintenance, but if you want a look that will have you standing out from the crowd, then this will definitely do it!

If you want to try it but don't want to go too extreme, here's a temporary look Kendall Jenner rocked similar to that trend. Short, small braids is a great way to go edgy for just a few days without giving your mom a heart attack!

For those girls getting ready to take the giant leap off to college in the Fall, you have a million things running through your minds. From picking out your classes and trying to get to know your new roommate, to shopping and attempting to pack the 18 years worth of stuff you have accumulated in a few boxes, your head is spinning. There is nothing worse than seeing the bed you will be sleeping in for the next year and realizing the sheets you bought were for a regular twin size bed. Be sure to get extra long (soft) sheets and probably a mattress pad if you want to sleep well. Bed raisers are a space and life saver when it comes to dorm rooms. Yes, sharing a bathroom with several people can be a horrifying thought at first, especially if you were privileged enough to never have to. However, you can avoid feeling any discomfort by buying a pair of non-slip flip-flops to shower in, and a cute shower caddy to conveniently carry all of your rub-a-dub goodies so nothing gets lost or goes MIA. Don't make the mistake of leaving your expensive products in the communal bathroom!

3. Over the Door Vanity with Mirror and Extra Hooks

We promise, this is one dorm room essential you may not have thought of, but will save you so much hassle! You will have a place to do your makeup, organize beauty supplies, hang jewelry, scarves, keys, or whatever you would like! Having a miniature fridge and eating utensils in your dorm room is a necessity! Even though you may be eating at the dining hall when you can, it is important to keep healthy snacks on hand at all times. Having a fridge will save you money because you can go to the local market and buy bottled water, fruit, yogurt, or any of your favorites and keep them in your room instead of running to a vending machine or local pizza place whenever you get hungry. The dining hall may not be open all the time so keep this dorm room must have on your list, especially if you play sports or stick to a particular diet.

5. Organizational Dry Erase Board

With so much going on in your new college lifestyle, it can be hard to keep track of exams, papers, socials, and everyday stuff. This is why we suggest getting some type of organizational board to hang on your dorm room wall to keep track of your busy schedule. Something with a dry erase board is perfect because you can easily keep track of daily tasks like tests or meetings, as well as weekly things like parties, laundry, shopping lists etc. Having one of these is having your schedule mapped out right in front of you, so no task will be missed.
