  • The Carrie Diaries Premiere

Sex and the City is back, but with a little bit of a twist! Did you catch the premiere of the new CW TV Show The Carrie Diaries last night? It's all about Sex and the City protagonist Carrie Bradshaw, but back when she was in high school in 1984.

While the show is technically a prequel to Sex and the City, don't expect the new show to be SATC all over again. Just like the original, Carrie Bradshaw is nothing short of a bubbly blonde aspiring writer who loves shopping, shoes, and of course, the big city. But, this show is an entirely different, yet just as fun drama that's a great watch whether or not you're a super fan of SATC.

And, if nothing else, who doesn't love the '80s?? The show is full of a perfect mixture of old and new, with the cast wearing '80s inspired outfits that we'd rock right now if we could get our hands on them! So, just like the original, the show doesn't disappoint in the fashion department. And, the soundtrack combines some great retro tunes with brand new songs. Check out some photos from the show below - they remind us of the fashion trends that are in style right now!

Pictured (L-R): Katie Findlay as Maggie, Brendan Dooling as Walt, Ellen Wong as Mouse, AnnaSophia Robb as Carrie, Austin Butler as Sebastian, and Freema Agyeman as Larissa.
Neon jeans are definitely a popular trend right now.
We'd rock this for Homecoming or Prom any day.

If you missed the pilot episode this week, no worries - I'm sure there will be many re-runs on TV! You can also already watch the full episode online on The CW's website! The show will be airing every Monday at 8pm EST, so just make sure to catch up before next week.

If you caught the premiere last night, leave us a comment and let us know what you thought!

  • Luxe Lace for the Holidays

Even though Spring and Summer are gone, many of the fashion trends of the two warm seasons have been sticking around in Fall, and don't plan on going anywhere for the Winter. Lace is one of those trends. But, it's not only the darker lace colors like blue and black that are popular right now - the lighter looks like ivory, white, and nude are sticking around for the colder months, too.

Teen Vogue mentioned that the lead designers have been freshening up their Fall runways with the lace trend. Simone Rocha, Dolce & Gabbana, and Michael Kors all had lots of lace (in both dark and light colors) throughout their Fall Winter 2012/2013 Fashion Shows. Check out our favorite outfits from their runway shows below.

Lace is definitely a classy way to dress up any outfit, and it without a doubt exudes the look and feel of the Holidays. The fabric is great to wear to a number of Holiday events - from Christmas parties with your family, Holiday parties with co-workers, or a New Year's Eve night out with friends.  Below are some of our favorite lace cocktail dresses that are similar to what the designers are showing off in their Fall/Winter fashion shows.

Wearing the lighter lace colors to holiday events is a great way to stand out in the crowd if you want a bolder look; but, choosing a darker lace fabric is always a classic for the holidays, and you'll still be sure to turn heads. Do you like the lighter colors for the Fall/Winter months? Leave a comment below!

  • Fall Colors: Nail Polish That Will Get You Noticed

The summer sun has set and fall is officially here, so that of course means it is time to re-work your go-to nail polish colors for the crisp, cool weather ahead. While the nude shades of the summer are still “in,” it is time to add some darker tones to the mix, as well. Scroll down for a look at the fall lacquer trends to try out before it turns to winter time!

Darker shades like midnight blue, burgundy, and dark purple are great for showing off your feminine side with a hint of ‘badass.’ The neon pink and yellow colors of the summer were fun, but it’s time to turn a new leaf (pun intended) and embrace that darker, gothic part of your femininity with the cooler weather ahead. The darker shades are always classics to choose when dressing up for formal occasions, as they can add a subtle hint of color to your outfit.

If you’re truly looking to get into the season, choose nail polish colors that match the changing of the autumnal leaves, like rusty oranges and reds and golden yellows. These hues will look particularly great with that little black dress.

Still not ready to give up on summer? The neutral colors of summer-time will always be a go-to polish because of its ability to be paired with any outfit! If you are looking for a more discrete color, neutral hues are always a dependable choice.

Green has been a popular color for a while now, with variations in the color changing according to the season. For Fall, military-inspired green is the hue of choice. While this may be a more difficult color to match with a formal outfit, if you have the right dress (military-related colors like black, silver, or gold would work best), it would be a great way to stand out from the crowd.

What fall occasions do you have coming up? Which polish color will you choose? Do you have any tips of your own to offer up? Leave some love in the comment section!

  • Designer Fashion Lines for Discount Retailers

Capsule CollectionWho doesn’t love a good deal?  That’s what major designers must have been thinking when they started partnering with discount retailers to offer “capsule collections” at low prices to the masses.  These high fashion lines at affordable prices have become the most popular clothing collections for the style savvy that are short on spare change.  The Marni Collection for H&M sold out from stores in hours this March, while the Missoni for Target line crashed the store’s website with record breaking sales during Fall Fashion Week last year.  These popular lines have been causing a stir in department stores and discount retailers for years, but some fashion lovers are starting to question how similar the low-price products really are to their designer counterparts.

Capsule collections, aimed to highlight popular fashion designers in the mainstream, are part of a long line of collaborations that discount retailers have embarked on.  Target has showcased lines by Jean Paul Gaultier, Zac Posenhas, and has an ongoing relationship with designer Michael Graves.  Similar stores are getting in on the action of this idea too.  Kohls released a line by Jennifer Lopez, Sears unveiled a Kardashian Collection, and H&M offered a limited run of Versache dresses and accessories last winter.  These less expensive versions of high-end apparel seem to be the latest trend for thrifty shoppers, but the low-prices are becoming noticeably relative to low-quality.

    History Lesson – Fall Hairstyles

Daniel at Fashioning says that this season, hairstyles are getting Vintage.  The 1960s ponytail, side braid,  and classic wavy bob from the 40s are taking over.  These hair trends are bringing us back in time and making it a little easier to style our hair each morning.  This Vintage mix is really about comfort and staying casual.  Any straight hair will look fab in a long, low ponytail, while those with curly locks are in luck too with manageable braids or a bob look.

  • Trend Setter – The Hourglass Dress

This Fall there’s a new shape to fashion: The Hourglass.  Dresses this season are taking a step back in time to the prim fit that used to rule the world.  No longer just a vintage style from the 40s and 50s, The Hourglass Dress is hitting the mainstream.

The Hourglass Dress accentuates the bust and hips.  This fashion is known as the woman’s best friend, allowing you to show off your natural curves.  While there are stick thin models walking the runways, the real trend is feeling confident and comfortable in whatever shape you’re in.

Hourglass Dress Style Fall 2012Above: Miley Cyrus, Paris Hilton, and Jessica Alba rock the Hourglass Dress look

The 50’s fit gets an update this Fall with new modern prints and accessories.  Even if you don’t have an hourglass figure, like most of us, you can still pull off the Hourglass Dress.  Wear a blazer, jacket, or cardigan with your dress to give it a more modern feel, and add on a belt to your outfit for a cinched waist look.  Thick or thin belts worn at the waist will give you the hourglass look.
