  • How to Dress Up for a Family Holiday Dinner

The Holidays are here and that means it's time for lots of parties - and lots of different types of parties! The Family Holiday Dinner is one event you're bound to be attending at one time or another this Holiday season, whether it be your own family's, your boyfriend's, or even your best friend's. This can be one of the more trickier events when it comes to dressing up, though. With family members aplenty - whether it be the Aunt that's your BFF, or your boyfriend's grandparents that you've never met before - it's important to make the right impression. Even though the holidays are usually a time for glitz and glam, this may be one holiday event where it's best to tone it down a notch; there will be plenty of time to show off that cute short sequin dress on New Year's Eve!

No matter what holiday you're celebrating, the general rules should hold constant: keep the fashionable side of you showing through with a cute dress, but stick to one that's more simple and toned down. Black is usually a good color choice for a simple look, but don't be afraid to show some festivity with a red, green, or blue colored dress. It's also always good to bring a blazer or cardigan to wear over the dress to cover your shoulders, especially if you choose a strapless dress.

Our 3 favorite for a Holiday family event are great simple, yet sophisticated mini dresses:

    1. Dave & Johnny style 8281 cocktail dress is a strapless black dress with taped taffeta over lace for fabric. It's a very classic looking LBD, with unique styling to it with the distinctive textured stripes throughout the dress.

    2. Terani style H1216 cocktail dress comes in the colors red and blue - both perfect for the Holidays. It has a scooped cowl neckline in both the front and back of the dress.

    3. Clarisse style 2044 cocktail dress is a sweet mocha colored dress that's adorned with beading and rhinestones. The pretty patterns gives it such a distinctive look, while the mocha color complements the beading and keeps the dress toned down.

  • Luxe Lace for the Holidays

Even though Spring and Summer are gone, many of the fashion trends of the two warm seasons have been sticking around in Fall, and don't plan on going anywhere for the Winter. Lace is one of those trends. But, it's not only the darker lace colors like blue and black that are popular right now - the lighter looks like ivory, white, and nude are sticking around for the colder months, too.

Teen Vogue mentioned that the lead designers have been freshening up their Fall runways with the lace trend. Simone Rocha, Dolce & Gabbana, and Michael Kors all had lots of lace (in both dark and light colors) throughout their Fall Winter 2012/2013 Fashion Shows. Check out our favorite outfits from their runway shows below.

Lace is definitely a classy way to dress up any outfit, and it without a doubt exudes the look and feel of the Holidays. The fabric is great to wear to a number of Holiday events - from Christmas parties with your family, Holiday parties with co-workers, or a New Year's Eve night out with friends.  Below are some of our favorite lace cocktail dresses that are similar to what the designers are showing off in their Fall/Winter fashion shows.

Wearing the lighter lace colors to holiday events is a great way to stand out in the crowd if you want a bolder look; but, choosing a darker lace fabric is always a classic for the holidays, and you'll still be sure to turn heads. Do you like the lighter colors for the Fall/Winter months? Leave a comment below!

  • Breaking Dawn Part 2 Premiere - Madrid

We're so excited about the release of Breaking Dawn Part 2 here at Rissy Roo's that we've decided to make it Twilight Week! We've been watching the Twilight stars going from premiere to premiere across the world, and we are obsessed with all of the outfits Kristen Stewart has been wearing. Our latest favorites were her Madrid premiere outfits - we thought her form fitting, simple dresses were a great contrast to her Los Angeles outfit.

Like we showed you a few days ago with the outfits the Twilight stars wore at the Los Angeles premiere, if you want to bring Kristen's red carpet looks into your formal wear, read on to find your perfect look-alike dress.

At the Breaking Dawn Part 2 Madrid photocall (on November 5, 2012), she wore a navy and white short dress. The gold embellishments at the neckline made the dress really stand out, but our favorite part was the color blocked detailing that accented the curves of her figure so well!

Get Kristen's color blocking look and show off your curves with the below dresses from Clarisse and La Femme. You can always also add a bib style necklace to really make your outfit stand out!

    A. Clarisse Style 1414 - A fitted strapless dress with white stripes on the sides. Best yet, it's on sale for $130!

    B. La Femme Style 15983 - A trendy mini halter top all over sequined dress. The side panels are see-through sheer, which adds a little different take to the color blocking trend.

    C. La Femme Style 16368 - Short ruche net strapless dress with jewel incrusted front.

The dress she wore to the actual Madrid movie premiere was a short, fitted neon yellow number. Neon was the hit trend of the summer, so we love that she brought it into the Fall!

Stand out in the crowd with these short neon yellow dresses from Clarisse, Hannah S, and Mac Duggal.

    D. Hannah S Style 27666 - A short dress with a strapless shirred tulle bodice and full skirt, beaded waistband, and embroidered sequin trim.

    E. Clarisse Style 2041 - A fitted, stretch-jersey dress with stones over sheer netting.

    F. Homecoming by Mac Duggal 6389N - A one shoulder ruffled dress with a fun and flirty tiered layered skirt and a waistband accented with jeweled detail.

  • Breaking Dawn Part 2 Premiere - Los Angeles

The Los Angeles premiere of "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" was this past Monday, November 12th, and the stars of the Twilight series looked as stunning as ever on the red carpet. With all of the recent hype behind Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson concerning their alleged break-up, we were happy to see them reunited at the premiere. And, we always love seeing Rob Pattinson and Tyler Lautner all dressed up!

Swooning and celebrity gossip aide, we were most excited about all of the beautiful dresses, of course! We loved the way Kristen Stewart, Ashley Greene, and Ashley Tisdale looked - their dresses were absolutely stunning. If you want to take a cue from these Twilight stars and rock their looks at your next formal event, check out our dress picks to get their styles below.

All eyes were on Kristen at the premiere, where she wore a strapless nude lace gown. We loved the corset bodice on the dress, which framed the dress against her body. You can get a similar look with one of these nude & lace dresses from from Jovani & Mac Duggal:

  • Dressing Up for Thanksgiving Dinner

Halloween is officially over, and we're now in our first week of November - that means the next holiday coming up is Thanksgiving!

Dressing up for Thanksgiving all depends on what type of Thanksgiving dinner the host has put together; some have very casual dinners (where you can wear jeans...or even sweatpants if you're just staying home!), but others have a more formal dinner (and by "more formal," we just mean a little more dressed up than normal, versus an actual formal event, like prom). If you're going to a more dressy dinner, it's good to look nice, but no need to go over the top. Read on for some of our tips on finding the right outfit for a more dressy Thanksgiving dinner.

Since it's Thanksgiving, a more comfortable option is to go with a stretchy or loose fitting dress (like a tunic dress). You'll be glad you chose this type of dress while eating all the food that comes along with the holiday (especially since they hide the tummy)! Two of our favorite more loose fitting dresses are from Shail K. - styles KK3143 and KK3149.

Style KK3143 is a Grecian style flowy dress that comes in colors red and black - both colors are perfect for a Thanksgiving dinner! Style KK3149 is a tunic dress that can be worn with leggings for a more casual look or with stockings to dress it up. It comes in colors black and ivory, however we recommend going with black for Thanksgiving (you'll see why below!).

Another important thing to keep in mind with this holiday surrounded by eating is the potential to drop the food on your clothes. Whether you tend to be a very clumsy person or not, it's inevitable that something will be spilled during the night. Because of this, we recommend picking dark colors or prints that will hide any gravy, stuffing, or cranberry sauce that may find its way onto you. Going with a white or light colored dress may leave you showing off your dinner, rather than your fashionable outfit; with Thanksgiving being in Fall, the darker colors are part of the festive vibe of the holiday, anyway. Scroll down to see some more darker colored dresses that are perfect for Thanksgiving.

    Jovani 171150 comes in black
Mac Duggal 76171R comes in colors red & black
Sherri Hill 1522 comes in colors black, red, ivory, navy, nude, & plum
Evenings by Allure A365 comes in chocolate & is on sale for only $39.99!

  • Accessorizing Your Formal Dress for Halloween

Halloween is a great excuse for you to go over the top. But why buy a costume when you can use an outfit from your closet...or get those clothes you've been wanting? Just by adding a few accessories to your favorite dress, you can instantly be part of the Halloween spirit and have the dress to wear again any time of the year (without the Halloween accessories of course)! Read on to see how we added some accessories to some classic formal dresses to make them ready for Halloween!

    Little Black Dress

You can get great use out of any black dress. This Clarisse black one shoulder hi-lo dress is one of our personal favorites (style 2174). Just add kitty ears, a witch hat, or vampire teeth, and you're all ready for Halloween! The real bonus, though, is that a Little Black Dress can be used for so many different occasions that you'll never run out of places and reasons to wear it.

    Fringe Dress

The fringe dress has been a very popular style lately. The look is taken from the 1920s flapper style, so with this in mind, this type of dress is great to turn into a flapper girl outfit!  This black Mac Duggal fringe cocktail dress (style 3479T) and Touch Ups Peacock high heals are perfect to be a flapper girl.

    White Dress

White formal dresses are always stand-out pieces at any event. For Halloween, just add wings and you can be a beautiful angel! One of our favorite white dresses is the Mac Duggal style 6383N, which has a beautiful  fully sequined top and layered ruffles of chiffon on the skirt. The Sizzle by Coloriffics Inez high heals are a great way to add some extra glitter to the outfit!

    Red Dress

Red dresses are always a sexy choice. And for Halloween, where there's a white dress for an angel, there must also be a red dress for the devil. Turn this La Femme 18110 cocktail dress into a devil by adding horns and a tail.
